The Basics
Based out of Lafayette, Colorado, Men and Women Seeking Empowerment is a community-oriented counseling facility offering a range of outpatient services for addiction, mental health and co-occurring disorders as well as domestic violence and anger management. Serving residents of Denver, Adams, Weld, Broomfield and Boulder Counties, treatment is available for individuals and couples.
Treatment and Staff
After an initial assessment, an individualized treatment plan is developed for each client, consisting of individual and group therapy using a variety of evidence-based modalities, including DBT, EMDR and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Some holistic options such as thought field therapy are also offered, as are relapse prevention services. Additionally, a Native American program is available using the Medicine Wheel program with techniques drawn from the Wellbriety Training Institute.
Each plan is generally divided into three phases with the first and second phases geared towards educating clients on the disease of addiction and the third phase diving deeper into treatment for dual diagnosis and trauma support. All clients must attend four AA/NA meetings a week, get a sponsor and work the 12-steps.
The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is for adults and juvenile offenders and typically lasts 21 sessions. Personal schedules for treatment are flexible, with groups meet from 10:30 am to 1 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays; 6 to 9:15 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 7 to 9:30 pm on Wednesdays.
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) using naltrexone and Antabuse are available, as well as a drug therapy program for marijuana dependence.
All programs are run by Sharon Huntoon, a Master’s-level LPC and level III CADC.
Extras
Because Men and Women Seeking Empowerment is essentially a private practice, it offers flexible aftercare plans. It also offers couples therapy, counseling for domestic violence, anger management and DUI/DWI support. Clients can receive regular drug screenings including urinalysis and breathalyzer tests.
