The Basics
With locations in St. Louis Park, St. Paul and Maple Grove, Minnesota, Melrose Center is a wide-ranging behavioral health clinic that offers flexible services for clients struggling with eating disorders and related behavioral health issues. The facility is owned and operated through Park Nicollet, a subsidiary of Health Partners, a non-profit health care provider based out of Minnesota. In addition to its residential treatment options, the facility also provides flexible outpatient, Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) as well.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning a program, all clients go through an initial intake and assessment process to help the staff members determine their needs. As the facility does have medical services available on-site, those in need of medical stabilization can do so before continuing onto therapy. As mentioned, participants can attend a more flexible outpatient plan, which they can design to suit their needs or an IOP track, which lasts for four weeks and consists of a minimum three hours of therapy two days a week. Finally, PHP meets for eight hours a day three to five days a week.
In all the above, participants attend both group and individual therapy with evidence-based treatment practices including CBT and DBT. While basic dual diagnosis support services are available for those dealing with depression or anxiety, those in need of more extensive support may need to seek additional aid. While 12-step participation is not required, clients can be referred to nearby meetings upon request. In addition to therapy, clients also work with dietitians and other counselors to develop healthy self-image, learn how to prepare meals, grocery shop and progressively work towards a healthy weight. Special meetings with doctors and psychiatrists can be arranged as necessary as well.
The staff at Melrose Center consists of LPCs, nurse practitioners, nutritionists, psychiatrists, doctors and additional Master’s-level clinicians.
Extras
As mentioned, those in need of more thorough care can also attend residential treatment at one of Melrose Center’s locations as well. Those in IOP and PHP also sometimes go on supervised group outings with staff members, often to local restaurants or grocery stores as a form of exposure therapy. Upon completing a program, clients can work with staff members to develop step-down aftercare and discharge plans as necessary.
In Summary
In all, Melrose Center offers well-rounded treatment services to clients struggling with eating disorders and related issues. Programs are flexible and individualized, with medical and psychiatric oversight, nutritional counseling and evidence-based treatment services. While those in need of more extensive medical care may want to seek additional help elsewhere, Melrose Center’s outpatient programs remain a strong option for those in the area.
