The Basics
McPherson Counseling Services, Inc. offers basic outpatient substance abuse treatment in Yulee, Florida, a community in the Jacksonville Metropolitan area noted for its world-class golf courses.
McPherson was founded by Mike McPherson in 2003, a Master’s-level International CADC and Substance Abuse Professional (SAP). After serving in the US Navy, McPherson then began his counseling career in San Diego at The Navy Drug and Alcohol Counseling School. He has been privately treating substance use disorders for over twenty years and employs evidence based methods of treatment to treat addiction and clients with dual diagnosis.
Treatment and Staff
After an assessment, McPherson creates a treatment plan that includes a combination of individual and group therapy. Clients attend group sessions once or twice each week and individual therapy as-needed, with a minimum of one session each month. The duration of treatment is progress-based and clients can work with McPherson to reduce the frequency of sessions as they make progress in their recovery. Group therapy is held on weekday evenings and individual sessions are scheduled throughout the week and on Saturdays. All therapy groups are led by McPherson himself and have between five and 15 participants.
Treatment does not require participation in 12-step meetings, though they are encouraged for most clients. Families can participate in treatment at McPherson’s discretion. McPherson treats clients with co-occurring disorders and works in tandem with psychiatrists and therapists of clients who are in treatment for mental health disorders.
Extras
A Parent Education and Family Stabilization class is available twice a month to help parents understand the effects of divorce on their children. Additionally, substance abuse professional evaluations, drug testing and assertive parenting and anger management programs are offered, as are continuing education courses and training for counseling professionals.
