McIntyre CenterThe Basics

About 11 miles southwest of Cleveland, in Parma Heights, Ohio, McIntyre Center is a weekday outpatient treatment facility that was established in 1985. Co-founders Edie McIntyre and her husband Joe made it their mission to “treat the whole person, not just the addiction.” After the passing of both Edie and Joe in 2011, the facility was passed down to their daughter, Kelley McIntyre-Deir, and son-in-law, Jehad Deir. Today, McIntyre Center remains a family-owned and operated facility that has helped thousands of people in the surrounding communities.

Treatment and Staff

Treatment at the McIntyre Center begins with an assessment. A counselor compiles a complete history of the potential client’s substance use and related issues and reviews it with the counseling team. Based on this information, they provide the diagnosis and recommendations that will best serve the client. Results of the assessment are shared with the client and suggestions are made for follow-up support. Because this program does not offer detox, inpatient or co-occurring disorder services, referrals can be made to other nearby facilities, if necessary.

The McIntyre Center treat clients according to individual recovery plans based on their specific needs. It offers a six-week outpatient program and an eight-week Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). The six-week program includes two hours of group therapy twice a week, while the IOP meets three times a week for three-hour sessions. Clients learn about the disease model of addiction and the physiological effects of substance abuse. There is an emphasis on relapse prevention in both programs. Group topics also include awareness of denial, the grief related to change and 12-step recovery programs.

The staff includes counselors, who are certified and licensed by the state. They believe in empowering clients to choose a healthier lifestyle.

Extras

Information about housing, education and other community resources is provided to clients. The facility also offers an addiction education program, the McIntyre Drug Awareness Program, which lasts six hours and consists of education and group and individual counseling.

In Summary

McIntyre Center focuses on outpatient treatment only, but offers referrals to many other programs. Because it is a small, family-run facility, it offers individual care with a personal touch. This rehab is a great choice for those who need a very short outpatient program at an affordable price.
