McCoy HouseThe Basics

Located in Jackson, Mississippi, The McCoy House is women’s sober living facility for those who have successfully completed residential treatment. Set in a beautiful residential neighborhood, this serene environment is an ideal setting for recovery. Through 12-step meetings, weekly house meetings and a strict zero tolerance for drugs and alcohol, clients learn the tools to live a happy and sober life.

Accommodations and Amenities

The women of McCoy House have the luxury of living in a stunning plantation-style home. The house has 10 beds in total, keeping the environment comfortable and intimate. Each bedroom is shared between two clients, featuring twin sized beds and two dressers. Clients are provided with bedding, linens and towels. Four nicely sized bathrooms are shared between two to three clients. The women also have access to a large dressing room with two vanities. The downstairs area of the home features a modern kitchen, a quaint breakfast room with french doors leading out onto the patio, a meditation room overlooking the garden and two spacious living rooms with televisions and fireplaces. The outdoor area of the home includes a porch, lounge chairs, fountains, bird baths and multiple areas for sitting and relaxing. Smoking is permitted in the outside areas of the home. Laptops and cellphones are also allowed.

The house also includes wireless internet, a private phone line, a full laundry room and ample parking. The kitchen is ready for meal preparation, filled with all the necessary cooking utensils, flatware and cleaning supplies. The women shop and cook for themselves, helping to build a sense of independence and confidence in the kitchen.

Rules and Regulations

All new clients must successfully complete residential treatment and transfer directly to McCoy House. Prior to being accepted into the program, clients are interviewed to determine if they will make a good match for the home. The women are expected to stay a minimum of 90 days, although many end up staying for six months or more. All clients are required to participate in an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), which is usually coordinated by their residential program as part of a continuing care plan.

This facility stresses their zero-tolerance policy for substances. The women are subject to random drug and alcohol tests and must attend four to five AA/NA meetings per week. Both on-site and off-site meetings are available. Weekly house meetings are mandatory. During this time, the women check in, updating the community on their progress and set backs. House projects and upcoming events are also discussed. While the women can work or attend school, it is not a mandatory requirement of the program.

Extras

When it comes to fitness, the women are given a membership and encouraged to work out at to the local gym. The residents are also allowed offsite during coordinated outings to places such as the local shopping malls, the grocery store and the movies.

In Summary

The McCoy House offers a comfortable, gender-specific environment for women. Sticking to the 12-step philosophy of recovery, clients attend frequent meetings and maintain abstinence at all times. Although the house is not as strict as some of the other sober living facilities, it gives enough structure to keep the clients on track. Those who are willing to do the work and stick to the program will find this program helpful.
