Maryhaven Center of Hope Review
Founded in 1930, Maryhaven Center of Hope is a multi-faceted behavioral health organization that provides a variety of treatment options for substance abuse and mental illness. Based in Nassau County, New York, Maryhaven Center of Hope offers both residential and outpatient care.
Accommodations and Food
Maryhaven has three residential facilities. Recovery House, located in Plainview, accommodates 20 male-only clients while Mercy Hall, in Freeport, can hold up to 22 female-only residents. Both facilities are private homes in quiet residential neighborhoods, each offering rooms based on double occupancy. Though groceries are included in the price of admission, clients are expected to cook for themselves. Both programs are designed for longer stays, typically lasting for six to nine months.
The third location is New Hope, a 30-bed, medically monitored, co-ed facility—also in Freeport—that provides short-term transitional care for stabilization purposes. Though not a detox, New Hope acts primarily as a holding station for clients continuing on to further residential care. Smoking is not allowed at any of the locations.
Treatment and Staff
The Maryhaven Horizon Personalized Recovery Oriented Services (PROS) program, offers a comprehensive array of services individualized for each client’s needs. This outpatient option includes community support, intensive treatment services meeting five times a week, employment help and more. Treatment consists of group and individual therapy using CBT, trauma-informed care, psychoeducation and psychotherapy. Groups address life skills and relapse prevention strategies. Art therapy and computer classes are also offered, as is medication management and support for clients with co-occurring disorders.
The residential treatment works with the same therapies mentioned above with an added emphasis on transitioning to independence living and gainful employment. Clients are also required to attend regular AA/NA meetings. For younger clients, a special teen treatment program is offered for ages 12 to 17 years old.
Staff includes RNs, CASACs, social workers, Master’s-level counselors and house managers, though this may vary by program and location.
Extras
Maryhaven Center of Hope also offers a psychosocial club that provides support for clients with mental illness. The program focuses on developing skills to integrate into the local community.
Aside from behavioral health support, the facility also has affordable housing options and senior housing services, as well as a performing arts programs for those with disabilities.
Finally, Maryhaven Center of Hope has an affordable culinary arts program and a number of additional community services for those seeking higher education.
