The Basics
For over ten years, Marinette County, Wisconsin has provided outpatient substance abuse treatment, mental health services and crisis counseling through its publicly-funded Marinette County ADAPT Clinic. Marinette is located in the Northeastern corner of the state best known as a tourist destination for its waterfalls and rafting on the Peshtigo and Menominee rivers.
Treatment and Staff
After receiving an assessment, clients work with a primary therapist to devise a treatment plan that includes group and individual therapy. The duration of treatment is progress-based. Clients outline their treatment goals with their counselor and may step down the frequency of therapy sessions as they progress through their recovery plan. Therapy groups use CBT and DBT and are led by addiction counselors and Master’s-level therapists such as LCSWs. Clients are not required to attend peer support meetings such as AA/NA, but counselors may suggest attendance as a component of the treatment plan.
ADAPT also provides on-site mental health services. A full-time staff psychiatrist offers medication management and therapy to clients needing dual diagnosis support. ADAPT also has crisis counselors on-staff who can assist clients with emergencies.
Extras
Each Monday, ADAPT hosts a free Alcohol and Other Drug Addiction education group for families of those suffering from substance abuse. The program lasts six consecutive Mondays and then repeats.
ADAPT also provides OWI (Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated) and in-home therapy services for youth and families. One-on-one substance abuse counseling is also available at the Marinette County Department of Health and Human Services Niagara location.

By providing substance abuse treatment alongside comprehensive mental health and crisis counseling services, Marinette County’s ADAPT Clinic offers one of the few comprehensive outpatient facilities with dual diagnosis treatment programs in northeast Wisconsin. Its free substance abuse education program for families and in-home services for troubled youth contribute to an effective option for those in the early stages of their struggle with addiction.
