Maple Leaf Treatment Center Review
Founded in 1956 by a group of alcoholic businessmen in recovery from Burlington, Vermont, Maple Leaf Treatment Center is one of the oldest residential drug and alcohol treatment facilities in the country. Located in Underhill, the organization is a CARF-accredited non-profit offering treatment for men and women.
Accommodations and Food
Set on 78 wooded acres near St. Mansfield State Forest, the facility can accommodate 33 residents who share a gender-specific room with at least one other roommate. Rooms have wood floors and come furnished with modest decor and twin-sized beds.
All meals and snacks are provided are have been described “hearty and homestyle,” typically including fresh fruit and vegetables. All electronic devices are prohibited while in treatment, including laptops and phones. Smoking is allowed on the property in designated areas.
Treatment and Staff
Perspective clients must have an initial 30-minute phone interview and assessment to determine their treatment needs. Those requiring detox are admitted to the facility’s 24-hour on-site detox unit with Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) available when necessary.
The main residential program offers individualized treatment plans which combine group and individual therapy. Modalities generally include psycho-education, mindfulness training, acudetox and creative therapy as well as evidence-based methods like CBT. Clients attend gender-specific groups to discuss more specific and intimate issues related to recovery. Regular attendance of 12-step meetings and family therapy are also required as a part of treatment. Support for mild co-occurring disorders is available as well.
Maple Leaf Treatment Center also has an outpatient option where clients transitioning out of residential care or alumni may take advantage of many of the same therapies on a stepped down rate.
Staff consists of Master’s-level counselors, LADCs, RNs, case managers and a clinical psychiatrist who has over 15 years of experience in the field of mental health and addiction.

The outpatient program can serve as an aftercare option for ongoing support.
