Bradford Health Services: Madison Residential Treatment Centers

Madison Residential Treatment CentersThe Basics

The Madison Residential Treatment Centers are part of Bradford Health Services, a private healthcare company with more than 28 locations across the US. Located in Madison, a city just outside Huntsville, Alabama, these 100-bed, co-ed treatment centers provide affordable treatment for both adults and adolescents. With more than 30 years of experience, the staff at the Madison Residential Treatment Centers aims to help walk clients through detox, therapy and the 12 steps in a safe and efficient manner.

Accommodations and Food

The living setup is comparable to a hospital, with separate floors for adults and adolescents. Each client is assigned a very basic room and bath to share with one other person. The rest of the building follows a somewhat sterile aesthetic, with modest furniture and very little color. There is a TV in the common room but other forms of electronics such as laptops and cellphones are prohibited.

The dining hall is just a short walk away from the bedrooms. All meals are prepared on-site and served cafeteria style. Don’t expect much when it comes to dining, as the food is reportedly cafeteria quality. Items like pasta, hamburgers, soups and salads frequent the menu. Caffeine is permitted in the mornings with breakfast.

The grounds at the Madison Residential Treatment Centers allow lots of room for long walks and cigarette breaks. There is no on-site gym or pool but a weekly yoga class provides some physical activity.

Treatment and Staff

The residential program typically lasts between 28 and 90 days, beginning with on-site, medically monitored detox for no additional cost. Once a client has completed a multidisciplinary assessment, both substance abuse and co-occurring mental health issues are treated through individual counseling, group therapy, family therapy, life skills and the 12 steps. Clients can spend several hours per day discussing group topics such as processing, life skills, trauma and nutrition while receiving individual attention twice a week. There is a strong emphasis on relapse prevention during both group and individual therapy.

Attendance at daily on-site 12-step meetings is required while weekly educational groups allow clients to better understand the 12 steps and abstinence-based lifestyle. Temporary sponsorship is another crucial part of this program, allowing residents to begin following the 12 steps while having sober support and understanding.

The staff at the Madison Residential Treatment Centers includes nurses, therapists, psychiatrists, social workers and a medical director.

The family program involves a mixture of therapy and education. Clients and family members can meet with the individual therapist for private sessions in addition to time spent in group therapy together. The family also has a chance to learn more about the 12-step programs and the world of addiction through educational lectures.

In Summary

Treatment at the Madison Residential Treatment Centers is primarily comprised of therapy and on-site AA meetings. With the included on-site detox, emphasis on relapse prevention and plethora of 12-step based tools, long-term sobriety can be found here.
