Located 40 miles north of San Francisco in Marin County, California, Luminous Sober Living provides sober living accommodations for men and women in the beginning stages of recovery from alcohol and substance use disorders. Accommodations and Amenities
The Novato house is situated in a lovely family-style 2,700 square foot home. A spacious home with an open floor plan and vaulted ceilings, Novato offers plenty in the way of amenities. There are two fireplaces, a large common area with comfortable furnishings, a recreation room with a pool table and a fitness area. Residents enjoy Wifi, a laundry room, flatscreen TVs, and a nice backyard equipped with a patio and barbecue.
There are four bedrooms, with accommodations for between four and eight residents. Bedrooms are large and equipped with queen sized-beds, dressers, large closets and ensuite bathrooms. Clients stay in either private or shared bedrooms.
Rules and Regulations
Luminous offers a “real life” atmosphere where residents make their own choices. Rather than instituting an array of unrealistic rules, the facility promotes a philosophy of care that focuses on empowerment, freedom and personal growth. Rules and regulations are largely tailored to meet the resident’s needs.
As a baseline, clients are required to participate in two meetings a week and perform basic chores. The facility also administers regular and random drug tests. And, residents must adhere to a curfew.
Luminous understands that each individual client has their own unique path to recovery. As such, residents work hand-in-hand with case managers to develop an individualized continued support plan customized to address the unique needs, goals and circumstances of the person. While flexible, Luminous nevertheless offers options. The facility hosts a weekly 12-step support meeting. Residents are encouraged to seek employment and educational opportunities. There are also possibilities for volunteering. While length of stay varies from person to person, the facility requires a minimum of 30 days.
