LRADACLRADAC Review

LRADAC is a non-profit health agency that specializes in prevention and treatment for substance abuse and addiction. With locations in South Carolina’s Richland and Lexington Counties, clients have the option to choose the facility most convenient for them. LRADAC offers inpatient detox as well as standard outpatient programs for adults, adolescents, professionals and pregnant women. Each year thousands of South Carolinians utilize resources provided by this network, which is one of 33 alcohol and drug abuse entities legitimized by the state.

Accommodations and Food

The accommodations for the inpatient detox program are held in a hospital-like setting with 24/7 supervision and medical staff on hand. There are double rooms and private rooms made available. Clients of the same gender share bathrooms and living spaces are communal. There is a dining area and meals are served cafeteria-style three times a day or brought to the client’s room depending on the stage of detoxification.

Treatment and Staff

The detox program is medically monitored and lasts anywhere from five to seven days. After detox completion, there are a variety of outpatient options offered by LRADAC that cater to specific demographics. There is a co-ed adult program, an adolescent program, a professional program, a perinatal program and a program specifically for women. The adult program allows clients to maintain a regular schedule during their treatment. The adolescent and youth program heavily integrate family therapy and family involvement to build a healthy support network for the young client. The Recovering Professionals Program (RPP) offers aid to individuals working in the healthcare field who are having substance abuse issues. The Maternal Outreach Management Services (MOMS) partners with local OBGYN offices, social services and parenting agencies to provide their pregnant clients with the necessary support they need. Lastly, the women’s program offers treatment tailored specifically to the social, psychological and physical needs of female clients. All programs offer assessments, individualized treatment plans, individual counseling, group counseling, educational services, family programming and drug screenings. The length of each program varies depending on the needs of each client and is subject to changes as he or she progresses through treatment.

The 12 steps are not integrated into the programs but clients may be referred to local AA/NA chapters if requested. LRADAC treats those with a primary diagnosis of substance abuse or addiction so those who need help with co-occurring disorders cannot be accommodated at this time. There are psychiatrists and psychologists on staff. There are also clinicians with the LCSW, LPC and LCDC credentials.

Extras

LRADAC offers a statewide alcohol and drug safety action program, dubbed The South Carolina Alcohol and Drug Safety Action Program (ADSAP), for those who have been convicted of a DUI. Additionally, there are referral services and a variety of community-based prevention and education programs.

In Summary

The outpatient programs offered by LRADAC provide services and treatment for a variety of different groups of people and cater to the needs of each demographic. Each group offers a structured base of evidence-based practices and treatment modalities. Also, the availability of detox on-site is an additional advantage to choosing to receive treatment here.
