The Basics
Situated on the second floor of a brick office complex, Living Recovery, LLC provides outpatient services for adults and adolescents struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. Located in the small town of Clive, Iowa near Des Moines, Living Recovery was founded by two Licensed Substance Abuse Counselors (LSACs) who wanted to make a difference in the treatment community by providing a boutique-style counseling center. Since its founding in 2011, Living Recovery has served Dallas County and surrounding areas with evidence based treatment.
Treatment and Staff
The first step in treatment is an assessment by an intake counselor. Once evaluated, the counselor works with the client to devise a treatment plan. Individual therapy is scheduled at least once a week and more if necessary with group therapy twice a week. Groups utilize CBT with topics including addiction studies, peer pressure, coping strategies and relapse prevention. Duration of treatment depends on the evaluation and the client’s progress. While individuals with co-occurring disorders are treated, anyone on medication must be seen by their own psychiatrist for medication management.
Living Recovery does not offer groups for adolescents but does provide them with individual therapy. Those under the age of 16 must have parental consent for treatment. Family therapy is offered and though not a requirement, is highly encouraged. Groups use CBT and include family dynamics, addiction and the family system and co-dependency.
Groups are kept small (usually only six individuals) and facilitated by a LSAC. The hours of operation at the center are Monday through Thursday from 8 am to 5 pm. Though Living Recovery encourages outside support systems such as 12-step meetings and Smart Recovery, it is up to the client to find the right group.
In Summary
Living Recovery, LLC offers substance abuse treatment for adults, adolescents and their families. While the hours are limited, Living Recovery might be a good fit for those who would benefit particularly from one-on-one counseling in a straight-forward outpatient treatment facility.
