LighthouseThe Basics

Located about an hour north of Denver in Fort Collins, Colorado, The Lighthouse is a non-profit, sober living home for men over the age of 18. The facility is housed a sprawling brick mansion, where it has been since it first opened in 2011. Some Lighthouse clients are self-referred while some are placed there by the court system while on probation or parole.

Accommodations and Amenities

Although this is no animal house, The Lighthouse facility is actually a converted former fraternity house with dorm style accommodations. There are 24 bedrooms, which the men share two to a room and a large downstairs area with a spacious dining room, commercial grade kitchen, a game room with pool, darts and other games, a family room and a laundry room. Cable TV is provided, as is all food. The Lighthouse operates on an “open kitchen” policy, wherein the stocked kitchen can be used by clients to prepare meals as desired.

Rules and Regulations

The Lighthouse operates on a zero tolerance policy for drinking or using. Clients undertake a nightly breathalyzer, as well as random urinalysis testing. The men are expected to attend at least one 12-step meting per day or a similar type of outpatient or church program. They are also required to obtain a sponsor or mentor and demonstrate that they are actively working on recovery. Lighthouse clients are also mandated to be looking for work while staying at the Lighthouse or already be employed full time.

There is a mandatory weekly house meeting and a curfew that starts at 7 pm for new clients and may move to as late as 12 am for more seasoned clients who meet their house responsibilities. Lighthouse clients are also responsible for doing assigned house chores.

Extras

The Lighthouse provides life skills classes, educational assistance for those who wish to apply to college, as well as assistance with finding and maintaining employment.

In Summary

The Lighthouse, Fort Collins is one of the most affordable sober living facilities around—the Lighthouse offers just as much as many other facilities, at a mere fraction of the cost. Belief in the divine is not mandatory but commitment to sobriety is. So, for those who want to support their sobriety through a structured facility and need to do so as economically as possible The Lighthouse may be the light at the end of the tunnel.
