The Basics
The Lighthouse Crew is a group of sober living homes for men in Fort Lauderdale, just minutes from downtown. There are four buildings on the property, staffed by an on-site manager. The homes are clean, contemporary and located in a tranquil setting, minutes away from the beach. There are no time limit requirements at any Lighthouse Crew home; the average stay is between three and six months. On-site managers help clients to work a 12-step program of recovery.
Accommodations and Amenities
Clients enjoy bedrooms flooded with Florida sunshine. The rooms are designed for clients to double up. All bathrooms are shared, too. Each one-story home is equipped with full kitchens. Clients are responsible for making their own meals.
All four houses have cable TV, Wi-Fi and coin-operated laundry machines. Clients are provided lockers to keep their possessions safe and secure. The homes are within walking distance of public transportation. Clients are eligible for half-price bus passes and food stamps. The on-site manager provides assistance in obtaining them.
Each home has a backyard with a grill to barbeque. Downtown Fort Lauderdale provides ample opportunity for fun in clients’ off hours. The homes are located on the Tarpon River, where clients can fish anytime. Clients also have access to a community pool nearby.
Rules and Regulations
Residents at The Lighthouse Crew are required to consistently work a 12-step program. They must keep their personal and community spaces clean, from folding their clothes to making their beds to keeping the bathrooms and kitchen clean. Clients participate in two mandatory meetings per week: an on-site Big Book study and a check-in meeting during the week. The Lighthouse Crew is right next to a 12-step clubhouse, so off-site meetings are ultra-convenient for those without cars. Clients are required to go to an off-site meeting every day. Curfew is 11 pm on weeknights and 12 am on Fridays and Saturdays. The on-site manager enforces random urinalysis tests for clients throughout their stay.
Extras
Clients are not required to provide a security deposit or undergo a credit check to stay at The Lighthouse Crew. Employers come around frequently to offer temporary work.
In Summary
The philosophy at The Lighthouse Crew is that clients must work on themselves by devoting time to a 12-step program. Six months is the recommended length of time for clients to settle into their new lives. The Lighthouse Crew provides the structure of 12-step recovery to help clients get back on their feet, and the sunny charm of South Florida in the background doesn’t hurt.
