The Basics
Based out of Port Clinton, Ohio, Light House Sober Living is a small sober living facility for men recovering from addiction. The non-profit was founded in 2012 and is state-certified as a Level 2 recovery home. Available programs are partially state-funded and cater to both court-ordered and self-referred clients, however, those with offender charges are not admitted.
Accommodations and Amenities
The residential-style home has a total of 10 beds available, all in shared rooms with relatively basic accommodations, such as twin beds, end tables and shared closet space. But all the essentials of a typical home, like on-site laundry and a fully-equipped kitchen, are available. While staff members help clients learn basic life skills, residents are expected to cook their own meals (though these duties are sometimes shared among peers as well).
Rules and Regulations
During their stay, residents submit to regular and random drug tests and are expected to obey the basic house behavioral contract, have a job or pursue further education. Residents are also required to attend regular 12-step meetings and attend some form of stepped-down outpatient treatment in the community. While basic assistance and guidance is available for clients with co-occurring disorders, those with more severe mental illness are encouraged to seek outside help. All clients must attend house meetings and participate in basic chores.
Extras
Light House Sober Living employs local volunteers to help around the house doing repairs, landscaping and yard work as necessary. Aside from physical labor, community members are sometimes asked to teach residents basic skills, like money management and effective parenting.

Overall, Light House Sober Living is a relatively basic but solid recovery home that offers a safe space for newly sober men to transition back into society. While the house is supervised by a manager, residents take a prominent role in running the facility on a day-to-day basis. While those in need of more thorough daily mental health support may want to look elsewhere, Light House Sober Living remains an affordable choice for men in the area.
