LifeStream Behavioral Center Review
Located in Leesburg, Florida—a quaint town just 40 minutes from Orlando—LifeStream Behavioral Center was founded in 1969, originally in accordance with a local hospital. In 1971, however, it became a stand-alone non-profit organization and has now grown to include inpatient and outpatient treatment programs for substance abuse and behavioral health called Adult Choice.
Accommodations and Food
Adult Choice is a 16-bed residential program where clients share their living space with three other same-sex roommates. Each room has its own bathroom. While the overall décor is basic and utilitarian, there is a rec room on-site with a TV and games for clients’ use. Computers and cell phones are not allowed during treatment.
While the food at LifeStream isn’t fancy, it is a cut-above other treatment programs in its price range with catered meals from a local restaurant served three times a day. The menu varies but all meals are nutritionally balanced and there are options available for those with dietary restrictions. Sugar and cigarettes are allowed but caffeine is not.
Treatment and Staff
The program at LifeStream varies from client to client it is based on individualized treatment plans. However, both residential and outpatient clients are required to work a 12-step program along with having individual and group therapy. Those with a dual diagnosis attend groups specifically focused on that issue. Outpatient clients are assigned to a primary case manager who helps guide what weekly hours and schedules work best for each them. Detox is available for clients in need and cost is subject to individual medication requirements but is negotiated on a sliding scale based on income.
The staff at LifeStream is a combination of physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, registered nurses and case managers. The ratio of staff-to-client ration is four-to-one.
Extras
There is weight room where clients can spend the hour of physical recreation time they’re given daily (they are also free to jog around the grounds).
