LifeSpring Recovery Review
The LifeSpring Recovery program offered through River Edge Behavioral Health Center in Macon, Georgia, caters specifically to pregnant and post partum women and their children. It offers residential, Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and standard outpatient care for clients who have been struggling with substance abuse, have been incarcerated, or both. Treatment methods are evidence-based and include regular group and individual therapy, case management services and aftercare planning.
Accommodations and Food
The LifeSpring facility is about 18,000 square feet that covers over two acres of land near to the Macon State College campus. The clinical facility can accommodate 16 to 20 women who live with their children, providing comfortable living quarters for the families. The fully furnished facility includes bedrooms that are large and simply decorated with two full beds and, if needed, a crib.
There are shared common areas within the facility and include living rooms, dining areas, child care rooms and the food service operation where the clients put in volunteer hours during their stay. Everything is provided for the women and their children during treatment including all meals and snacks. In addition to the residential section of the building there are also outpatient treatment room that includes offices, spaces for group therapy meetings, and classrooms.
Treatment and Staff
The LifeSpring program offers evidence based treatment methods, on-site 12-step support meetings, psychoeducational classes, group and individual therapy and life skills training. For the most part, the women who are admitted into treatment are referred from outside agencies including other mental health professionals or the judicial system.
Treatment is individualized for each specific client and takes into consideration past trauma and relapse history. The gender-specific therapy can include trauma informed care, CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Additionally the children of clients are provided with group and individual therapy that emphasizes the importance of self-esteem and behavior, also offered in a gender-specific setting. With the adult clients, there is also a focus on relapse prevention, anger management and parenting skills. For clients who come into the program with co-occurring disorders, there are psychiatric and medication management service available.
Upon completion of a minimum of six months of residential treatment, the women have the option to step down to IOP. This includes nine hours of treatment a week, with both individual and group therapy offered at various times. The outpatient track is often the last stop in the treatment continuum and consists of one groups session per week.
The staff of River Edge and LifeSpring includes Master’s-level and licensed LCSWs, LPCs, psychiatrists, RNs, caseworkers and peer support staff.
Extras
Family counseling is offered throughout the program at LifeSpring, as well as aftercare services that can include transitional support, job training or additional outpatient services.

It not only provides tools for sobriety and vocational training, but it also strengthens family bonds and chances for the long-term success of the entire family.
