The Basics
Based out of Providence, Rhode Island, Lifespan Recovery Center is a drug and alcohol treatment program operated under the auspices of Lifespan, a broad affiliation of hospitals and medical clinics operating out of Rhode Island and the surrounding area. More specifically, Lifespan Recovery Center provides outpatient-based services focused on treating clients with opioid addictions.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning a program, all individuals must go through an initial assessment to make sure they are a right fit for treatment. To qualify, participants must be 18 years or older, qualify as opioid dependent, be medically stable (and if on methadone, be down to approximately 30mg a day) and be open and willing to participate in therapy. This initial intake process comes with a psychosocial assessment, a physical, a Hepatitis C screening and a urine test.
Once they’re admitted, all clients attend both individual and group therapy which feature a range of evidence-based treatment practices including CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Mindfulness-based treatment is also used along with sessions focused on relapse prevention. Dual diagnosis support services are available for common mental conditions like PTSD, anxiety and depression, with medication management available as well. Because the program focuses so heavily on opiate addiction, Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is also used throughout which may include Suboxone or Vivitrol. Finally, 12-step participation is also strongly encouraged.
The staff at Lifespan Recovery Center consists of doctors, nurses, recovery coaches, LPCs, LCSWs and additional Master’s and PhD-level clinicians.
Extras
Additional services outside the main program include flexible case management and care coordination as well family education and support groups. As part of the larger Lifespan organization, those in need of additional medical or psychiatric services can get them on-site as well. Finally, anyone who completes a primary care plan can work with the case managers to develop stepped down aftercare regimens as necessary.

Treatment plans include MAT as well as evidence-based individual and group therapy, relapse prevention classes, family support groups and case management services.
