Vista CaliforniaThe Basics

Founded in 2005, Lifehouse Recovery Connection is a group of three male-only sober living houses around San Diego, California with locations in Vista, Point Loma and Poway. Lifehouse’s mission is Unity, Service and Recovery, which is inspired by the AA Circle and Triangle symbol. They provide safe and secure housing for recovering alcoholics and addicts, with an emphasis on a unified household, they also provide peer-to-peer recovery coaching services.

Accommodations and Amenities

The Vista house is a one-story ranch-style home with a lawn and white picket fence and the Poway house is a yellow-shingled house with white trim. The house on Hancock Street in Point Loma is a simple one-story structure with an expansive driveway and a metal fence separating the patio from the street. The Poway house accommodates eight men in single or double-occupancy rooms, while the Hancock house accommodates 12 men paired in six rooms. The Vista house has a smaller number of clients, with six men paired in three rooms. The furnished houses include common areas, fireplaces, patios, backyards and fully equipped kitchens.

Clients are responsible for their own groceries and meal preparation. Each house has three refrigerators, giving clients ample space to store perishable food items. Each location has a house fund, which is maintained by the residents. The house fund is used to purchase laundry detergent and other basic supplies. Each residence has a house manager who is in recovery. Amenities include Wi-Fi, Cable or Satellite TV, laundry facilities and free parking. Smoking is permitted in outdoor designated areas.

Rules and Regulations

At Lifehouse Recovery Connection, new clients must have a minimum of 30 days clean and sober. Individuals working a 12-step recovery program are preferred. Two legitimate references are also required, preferably one being from a sponsor. For the first 30 days, clients must adhere to an 11 pm curfew seven days a week. After that period, clients are asked to be respectful of their fellow housemates, particularly those with work schedules, but there is no set curfew time. While visitors are allowed, they must respect a 10:30 pm curfew seven days a week.

Requirements include obtaining or maintaining a decent job, or having a good source of solid income. Clients are expected to attend 12-step meetings on a regular basis, as well as be present at the weekly house meeting where household issues are discussed. Additionally, assigned household chores must be performed and clients must treat their housemates in a respectable and courteous manner. At Lifehouse Recovery Connection, random drug and alcohol screenings are conducted. There is a zero tolerance policy for those who have tested positive. Relapsed clients are dismissed from the premises immediately.
