The Basics
Located in West Los Angeles, California, Life Renewal House provides sober living for men in a family-style atmosphere. Their belief is that a close-knit setting is a healthy set-up for clients new to recovery, because it gives them a chance to develop peer support and build solid friendships. Life Renewal House is in close proximity to many 12-step recovery meetings, as well as outpatient rehabs, therapists and medical providers.
Accommodations and Amenities
Life Renewal House accommodates eight men in a tidy multi-family home located on a main surface street, with direct access to the 405 and 10 freeways. The house has high ceilings and contemporary furnishings. Clients are lodged in single or double-occupancy rooms, comfortably furnished with contemporary twin beds, nightstands, dressers, lamps and LCD televisions.
The house includes an ivory pantry room with ample shelves and storage space. Clients are responsible for their own meals, which are prepared in a spacious fully equipped kitchen. Amenities include Wi-Fi, laundry facility with laundry supplies, Cable TV, office center with computer and printer set-up, barbeque and ample street parking. A huge private backyard includes a table and chairs, and is used for meetings or meditation. Life Renewal House features in-house staff.
Rules and Regulations
The minimum requirement for house admission is completion of detox, but Life Renewal House prefers clients who have been clean and sober for at least of 30 days. Clients must pass a drug test to be admitted. Requirements for residents include attending between three and four 12-step weekly meetings, being at the in-house meeting, and pursuing a job, academic education or participating in community service. Clients must perform household chores, and make sure that the house is kept immaculate.
The curfew is 10 pm Sundays through Thursdays, and midnight Fridays and Saturdays. While Life Renewal House is based on a 12-step approach, clients are encouraged to seek a feasible recovery curriculum of their own choosing. Non-12-step-based methods are permissible, including SMART Recovery and Refuge Recovery, a Buddhist-oriented recovery practice. Clients undergo random drug testing. At Life Renewal House, relapsed clients are immediately dismissed from the premises.
