The Basics
Based out of San Jose, California, Life Choices Treatment for men has been providing a sober living environment since 2001. Located close to downtown, the home is easily accessible by public transportation and offers comfortable accommodations in a structured environment. With both mental health and peer support, men are assisted in creating a solid foundation to begin a life of autonomy and sobriety.
Accommodations and Amenities
The fully-furnished, 31-bed compound sits on four acres of land adjacent to a walnut orchard. The grounds offer plenty space for nature walks and other outdoor recreation. The bedrooms are large and typically accommodate up to six men at once in bunk beds with shared closets and bathrooms. The home comes equipped with cable television, WiFi access, workout equipment— including free weights and elliptical machines—a full kitchen and a cooking staff that provides three meals a day.
Rules and Regulations
During their stay, clients are expected to either attend school or be gainfully employed while also continuing to work a program of recovery. Life Choices is committed to the 12 steps and residents are required to attend regular on-site meetings. Though clients are invited to stay anywhere from one to six months, men are encouraged to stay as long as it takes to complete all 12 steps.
Clients are expected to complete basic chores including keeping the kitchen and common areas clean and attending regular house meetings. Residents also participate in group and individual therapy which is scheduled as needed. Dual diagnosis support and medication management services are also available and random drug testing is conducted to ensure continued abstinence.
Staff consists of a consulting psychiatrist and MD as well as several on-site house managers.

Life Choices Treatment is a no frills, 12-step oriented sober living program for men that encourages longer stays for better results. Residents are actively integrated into sober life by keeping full schedules of work and/or school, domestic chores and working the steps—supplemented by therapy and recreational activities.
