Liberty House Review
Liberty House is a member of UK Addiction Treatment Centres, a network of six economical to mid-range treatment facilities in the United Kingdom that has been in operation for over two years. Liberty House is located in Luton, a scenic village in county Devon, in the southwestern corner of the United Kingdom.
The facility provides integrated detox and residential treatment and takes a multidisciplinary approach to recovery. It employs evidence-based therapy as well as the 12-step framework and holistic and experiential therapies.
Accommodations and Food
Liberty House occupies a suburban brick manor home with 20 beds in double-occupancy bedrooms. Bedrooms have modern furniture and textiles. The home is has well-appointed, comfortable decor and treatment rooms for group therapy and common areas for study and recreation. Residents have limited access to phones and Internet.
All meals are prepared by the home’s full-time chef. Meals can accommodate residents’ preferences and dietary restrictions. The home is located near the center of Luton, and residents are regularly taken to town for coffee and shopping.
Treatment and Staff
Liberty House prides itself on providing “bespoke treatment programs” that are customized to each resident’s recovery needs. It provides a week-long detox program for clients in need of stabilization. Clients can then continue treatment in 14-day or 28-day residential programs and can extend their stays for an additional several weeks, or even months.
Clients attend an average of four to five treatment groups a day and have individual therapy at least once a week. Therapy uses CBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and the 12-step framework and clients have art and music therapy, as well. Residents also have on-site 12-step meetings and their counselors and peer support workers can help with recovery homework and lend support by sharing their experiences of working the 12 steps.
The counseling staff is comprised of Master’s-level therapists and support workers, many of whom are in recovery themselves. Residents in need of dual diagnosis support or primary care treatment receive coordinated care with additional local health care providers, and UK Addiction Treatment Centres has a staff psychiatrist to monitor residents’ with co-occurring disorders.
Extras
Liberty House invites family members to participate in family counseling, and the treatment team helps family members locate support meetings and therapists for themselves.
As an alumni of UK Addiction Treatment Centres, all residents who complete their treatment plan can receive one year of weekly relapse prevention groups free of charge.
