Located in Phoenix, Arizona, Liberation Center is an outpatient facility that treats eating disorders like anorexia, bulimia and binge eating as well as those with and co-occurring substance use disorders and psychiatric conditions. Joint Commission Accredited, Liberation Center was founded by Dr. Adeola Adelayo and Dr. Lesley Williams with the goal to provide a well-rounded, client-centered approach that heals “the whole person” rather than simply treating symptoms. Through a multifaceted care strategy that integrates multiple therapeutic methods including psychiatry, evidence-based therapies, holistic models, nutrition counseling and 12-step recovery, there are options for a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and standard outpatient services tailored to the client.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning treatment, clients undergo a comprehensive health assessment to help the team determine the most effective individualized care plan. From there, clients enter either the PHP, IOP or outpatient programs, which are ideal for those that either cannot commit to residential treatment or are transitioning back into regular life from an inpatient program. With morning and evening options available, clients are able to receive treatment while still sleeping at home and continuing to work.
Liberation Center offers a broad approach to treatment that draws on a number of therapeutic measures that includes psychiatric services, holistic methods, nutrition counseling, education, the 12-step model and evidence-based therapies. While in the IOP or PHP, clients engage in up to seven hours of therapy five days a week, that combines individual, group and family therapy sessions that utilize evidence-based methods like CBT, DBT, ACT and EMDR to treat trauma as a causal component of current conditions. In addition, clients participate in process groups on body image, self-soothing and creative expression as well as holistic methods like music therapy, mindfulness and movement. Clients also learn life skills like anxiety reduction, relationship building and receive life coaching. Meal support is provided for clients with eating disorders, as are weekly one-on-one sessions with a dietitian. For clients in need of dual diagnosis support, the Liberation Center can facilitate medication management.
The Liberation Center employs a multidisciplinary team comprised of nutritionists, therapists, a psychiatrist, physician, clinical psychologist, body image therapist, a diet technician and two moving instructors.
Liberation Center understands the focus necessary to be successful in the IOP and PHP. To this end, the facility offers low-cost independent housing, called Alta Fillmore, for participants.
