The Basics
Legacy Healing Center is a substance abuse treatment organization for men and women located outside Miami in Margate, Florida. Its goal is to help people heal from the physical, emotional and spiritual trauma of addiction and co-occurring disorders. The facility opened in December 2016 and offers a continuum of care in the typical “Florida style,” with clinical services offered in an office environment with a luxury sober living option. The organization has plans to expand but currently the sober living and Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) are open to men only, while the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is co-ed.
Treatment and Staff
Legacy Healing Center offers individualized programs for every client, so the total length of treatment can vary. An assessment determines where new clients fit on the continuum of care. Those requiring detox can be referred to an off-site clinic and return when they are medically stable. Those with co-occurring disorders can expect psychological support and medication management.
The PHP is a day/night program that meets seven days a week and consists of structured therapeutic activities designed to help men build a sober lifestyle. Clients receive at least 25 hours of clinical care a week, with multiple group sessions a day, at least one individual session a week and required AA/NA meetings. The IOP is designed as a step-down for those who have completed PHP or a residential program. It meets for a minimum of nine hours a week, usually three times a week for three hours of group therapy. The outpatient program meets for group once a week and one individual session a month.
Therapy methods in all programs include psychoeducation, CBT, DBT, Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) and holistic approaches like guided meditation, nutritional counseling, exercise and massage therapy. Counselors aim to address every aspect of clients’ lives, taking into account their medical history, psychological issues, family, career and educational goals.
The staff is made up of Master’s-level therapists whose credentials include LPC, CADC and LCSW.
Extras
The sober living home has space for a total of 6 male clients. Men reside in semi-private bedrooms that are furnished with twin beds, closets, luxurious bedding and linens. Adjoining bathrooms contain tubs and showers. Comfortable sitting areas and chic décor create an inviting atmosphere in the living spaces. The home includes an outdoor recreation area with a pool and ping-ping table. The men build life skills by shopping for groceries and preparing their own breakfasts and dinners. Catered lunches are served daily during treatment at the clinical facility for those in the PHP.
Legacy Healing Center also offers a free family program for loved ones that includes group therapy and classes.
The aftercare program helps clients transition into their new lives with ongoing contact with our staff, alumni activities and contact with outside support programs such as 12-step.
