The Basics
The Lee Woodward Counseling Center is a substance abuse treatment program for women that was founded in 1985 by the Asian American Recovery Services, Inc. Located in San Francisco, California, the LWCC is an outpatient program tailored to provide recovery services to the bay area Asian-American community by focusing on treating the physical, mental and emotional aspects of addiction.
Treatment and Staff
The treatment program at LWCC is highly individualized to accommodate the various needs or limitations of each client. The program is offered in three different languages—English, Mandarin and Korean—to accommodate the needs of the community. Upon intake, clients are initially assessed to determine the severity of their addiction and to develop a treatment plan that is best suited for their individual needs.
Program hours are from 9 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday with extended evening hours on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays to 8 pm. Childcare services are also available for parents in treatment. While each recovery path is unique, clients typically have one individual and at least three group therapy sessions per week.
Services include individual and group therapy, relapse prevention, process and education groups, aftercare planning and family counseling if desired. The frequency of the various types of therapies is determined after the assessment and change according to the client’s progress. The 12 steps are not integrated into the program; CBT and DBT methodologies are implemented.
The staff at LWCC consists of psychiatrists, LADCs, LPCs, LSWs and CADCs.
Extras
In addition to their evidence-based practices and treatment modalities, LWCC also offers alternative treatments and therapies. Holistic practices such as meditation, mindfulness, acupuncture and yoga are available to provide well-rounded treatment. The program also includes recreational activities outside of treatment such as hikes, planned social outings and organized games and sports.

LWCC’s array of treatment options and experienced staff make this basic outpatient facility a good choice for individuals who are not able to commit to the requirements of an inpatient or Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Through individualized treatment planning, holistic approaches and childcare services, LWCC aims to provide a safe and understanding environment for women to receive treatment and to recover.
