Ledgehill Treatment and Recovery CentreLedgehill Treatment and Recovery Centre Review

Ledgehill Treatment and Recovery Centre operates out of a converted 1800’s farmhouse in Lawrencetown, a tiny hamlet in Nova Scotia, Canada, just east of Maine. It was founded in 2009 by a sober Charles Bower in response to the lack of private facilities in Atlantic Canada. Primarily 12-step in focus, Ledgehill’s intensive and active program is geared towards clients drawn from the professional and business communities who are already in good general physical and mental health.

Accommodations and Food

Described by a former resident as “a charming inn,” Ledgehill was originally renovated as a corporate training center to four star hotel standards. Nine clients sleep in private rooms, furnished with queen-sized beds and en-suite bathrooms. Treatment and housing occur together at the farmhouse, and the property covers more than 110 acres of fields and woods to be explored. Miles of beaches and shorelines are also close by, providing plenty of opportunity to reconnect with nature.

Clients share the common areas in the house, multiple fireplaces, and eat together in the dining room. A healthy diet is an important component of the program at Ledgehill, so nutritious, high quality and often organic meals are provided by the kitchen staff.

Treatment and Staff

Ledgehill’s standard program is 45 days long, but it also offers 30- and 90-day treatment plans. Residents are required to be free from drugs and alcohol for at least seven days before being admitted, and while there is no detox program offered here, placement assistance is available for those in need.

The highly credentialed staff, including an on-site MD who specializes in addiction therapy, completes a detailed clinical assessment as part of the admission process, and a holistic, evidence-based program of support is developed for each individual. The staff-to-client ratio is almost even, and group size is small, often between four and seven participants of the same gender, when appropriate.

The program here is designed to address not only chemical addictions, but also behavioral addictions like sex and gambling, with attention to concurring mental health conditions. Group therapy is combined with one individual session a week as well as daily educational classes and lectures on addiction and relapse prevention. Therapies provided include Solution-Focused, Narrative, Systems, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and CBT therapies.

At Ledgehill, visitation is built into the family programming. Loved ones are invited to participate in counseling, educational groups and relationship building lectures. There are group discussions on addiction, presentations on recovery from the clinical staff and personal reading and reflection from family and clients.

Residents are expected to work hard at Ledgehill. Days begin at 8 am and finish at 9 pm. The schedule starts with yoga and meditation, followed by individual therapy, group counseling, addiction education, experiential learning, workshops, exercise, outdoor activities, therapeutic assignments and duties, diet and nutrition classes and evening AA or NA meetings. There are planned weekend activities, but no weekend leave. Treatment is fully residential and staff supported seven days a week, 24 hours a day.

Extras

Tai Chi, yoga, meditation, gardening, photography and art therapy are some of the extras offered at Ledgehill. In addition, there is an off-site gym available at no extra cost, and residents can golf, hike, cross-country ski and canoe along the Annapolis River, weather permitting.

In Summary

The client’s overall health, welfare and privacy are of the utmost importance at Ledgehill. The personal attention, the focus on chemical as well as behavioral addictions and the wealth of extra activities make this economically priced facility an excellent deal, for clients both in and out of Canada.

  1. This was a excellent informative post you have shared on this page about the health insurance requirements for the save of your life but You should ask them about all the details about the medical insurance plan, including cost and detailed information about what will be covered and if dependents can be added (if that is relevant to you). You often have the option to waive the school-sponsored plan and purchase another insurance plan that you prefer which is more often a better value while still matching the requirements.
    Thanks.

  2. If you’re in the honeymoon period of your relationship (the first 1-2 years of seeing each other), you probably can’t get enough talking, touching, and being with your significant other. Your partner’s hands-on time may be double our projections, assuming 4 nights per week. On the other hand, if you have kids, it may be half that or 1 night per week due to the rugrats’ ability to launch spaghetti (actual pasta) all over your house, leaving you constantly cleaning up after them.

  4. My son, aged 25, is just starting his fourth year of alcoholism. After two years of terrible binges when he would be absent for two or three days at a time on a fairly regular basis, at the beginning of this year he saw the light and just stopped and was completely sober for eight and a half months and even had a job to pay off the debts incurred while he was drunk. For three months now he has been back on the bottle although, so far, he has not gone on any binges outside the home, preferring to drink in his room. I know his drinking his linked with anxiety and depression and at least he voluntarily goes to see an addict specialist and a psychologist. I feel so sad for his wasted life, it is heartbreaking. I have come to the point where I must protect myself and will go to an Al Anon meeting as soon as I can

  6. The fireworks and loud bangs during the holiday:
You can also help emergency responders on the 4th by keeping the intersection of Belmont Ave and Bellevue Pl. E. clear for emergency vehicles. In recent years, the intersection has become a popular spot during 4th Festivities, which is problematic as it’s also a direct link between Lakeview and South Lake Union. Please help police keep the street clear this year.
    Thanks.

  7. Hi Adam Walker,
You have shared a great excellent informative post on this page about the finding of best rehab centers in the Canada, But the decisions on a particular rehab center, it is advisable that you take some little time to carefully read through the reviews of a couple of the centers. Reviews are testimonials from those who have been to the rehab centers and are based on their experiences. Based on the testimonials, you will be able to identify a center that offers effective treatment.
    Thanks.
