With locations throughout San Francisco, San Mateo and Tulare counties, The Latino Commission is a latino-focused behavioral and mental health organization offering residentialoutpatient and sober living programs for substance abuse. Its Bay Area and Central Valley locations also offer teen pregnancy prevention and family empowerment programs but the outpatient facility in South San Francisco has provided addiction treatment to the local latino community for more than 20 years.

Treatment and Staff

Upon intake, clients meet with staff to develop an individualized treatment plan that fits within the multicultural and communal environment of facility, which focuses on the latin community. Treatment is comprised of group therapy, using evidence-based practices such as CBT, addressing topics such as anger management, relapse prevention, self-esteem, life skills, financial management, addictive thinking, codependency and HIV education. Individual therapy can be added as needed. Though not required, participation in local 12-step groups is encouraged. The staff of The Latino Commission outpatient substance abuse program consists of LMFTs and RNs.

Extras

Additional services include youth development and teen pregnancy prevention programs, like the Xinatchtli Seed Project for young girls that teaches life skills and positive identity building. The program lasts for 14 weeks with three-hour meetings once a week.

Clients attending The Latino Commission’s residential programs in San Mateo, Redwood City, Daly City and San Bruno attend weekly groups at the outpatient facility as well.

In Summary

Overall, The Latino Commission Outpatient provides basic and affordable outpatient care to the Latin community of San Francisco and the Bay Area at large. Treatment is evidence-based and supports 12-step principles and community outreach. While those with severe co-occurring disorders may not be adequately served here, The Latino Commission Outpatient remains a strong resource for its local demographic.
