Located in a tranquil central Michigan town, Lapeer County Community Mental Health provides outpatient care to individuals coping with mental illness and substance abuse issues. Lapeer is CARF-certified with staff trained in a myriad of therapeutic techniques including DBT, Family Psycho-education (FPE), Integrated Dual Disorder Treatment (IDDT), Supported Employment (SE), the Assertive Community Treatment Program (ACTP) and Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR). Therapists determine which therapeutic modalities would best serve each client.

Treatment and Staff

Treatment at Lapeer beings with a phone call evaluation during which clients are asked about their medical history, family history and medication and substance use. Clients eligible for mental health or substance abuse treatment make an appointment with a medical professional at Lapeer. The facility can provide detox as needed and co-occurring disorders are treated with individualized plans. The intake staff refer any clients ineligible for recovery at Lapeer to outside facilities.

Clients have a variety of treatment options at their disposal, including individual therapy, group therapy, a family program and methadone maintenance. Some clients attend outpatient once a week, others multiple days a week, the frequency of attendance depending on the individualized plan. Creativity is a highly valued recovery tool at Lapeer and, to that end, they expose clients to experiential groups like creative writing and drama classes, art therapy and music therapy. Those who participate in these classes also have the opportunity to to join an organized singing group, The Joyful Noise Singers, or the CMH Players Theater Group.

Lapeer uses a team of professionals who work together to support clients. The staff includes therapists, a case manager, nurses and doctors.

Extras

A family program led by a Lapeer therapist meets on the first and third Thursday of the month from 4 pm and 5 pm. This support group is for family and loved ones of addicts and individuals with mental illness and is free to Lapeer County residents.

At Lapeer’s psychosocial rehabilitation program, known as Harmony Hall, individuals with mental illnesses gain support from peers, go on social outings and feel involved in the community.
