Lanna Rehab began operation in 2015 in the luxury resort district of Chaing Mai, Thailand. Co-founders Darren Lockie and Martin Peters are both ex-pats with many years of experience in business and substance abuse treatment. Lanna Rehab provides an array of holistic options to clients who are 18 years and older. Inpatient and outpatient treatment is available with several specialized tracks available, such as 12-step based recovery and treatment catering clients with a dual diagnosis.
Lanna Rehab also offers a unique track for to addicts and alcoholics in the music industry. Clients range from rock stars to guitar techs and lighting engineers. The philosophy is that those in the music profession tend to be exposed to drugs and alcohol on the job, putting them more at risk for addiction but possibly lacking the financial security to get treatment. With an industry advisor on staff who has 20 years experience in the music business, Lanna rehab is able to offer specialized treatment plans that caters to these clients.
Accommodations and Food
Lanna Rehab is a converted luxury hotel that can accommodate up to 30 clients at a time. Each resident is houses in private rooms with queen or king beds, big screen TVs and en suite bathrooms. The facility also includes meeting rooms, a media lounge, dining room and beautiful communal outdoor space with smoking areas, a pool and a gym.
All meals are prepared on site and included in the price of stay. Plenty of dietary options are available for each meal including traditional Thai food and more western choices at each meal.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment Lanna Rehab is completely individualized and the duration of the program can last one to three months. If clients feel they need more time, arrangements can be made to extend their stay. Detox is not offered on site, so it is recommended that new clients complete this phase before beginning treatment. Referrals to a local hospital that has a cooperative relationship with Lanna is available.
Upon admission, clients spend every day attending individual therapy with an assigned counselor and taking part in group therapy twice a day. Weekly schedules include time for guided meditation, completing written assignments, off-site excursions and time to swim or work out. Treatment uses CBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI), the 12-step framework and experiential modalities such as art therapy and yoga. Clients are also offered transportation to AA/NA meetings. Support for co-occurring disorders is available in the form of specialized groups and medication management.
As clients progress through treatment, there is a shift toward a focus on relapse prevention. For those who live locally or would like to stay in Thailand, an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is available as a step-down option, which consists of three groups a week. The outpatient facility is a co-ed house on the Lanna Rehab property where clients can live while preparing to go home. Counselors work with clients to help plan structured activities, learn new skills and gain confidence before leaving treatment.
Treatment is available in English, as many of the staff are from the US or the UK. Lanna Rehab employs a number of licensed counselors, psychiatrists and psychologists, medical professionals, mindfulness coaches, nutritionists, financial case managers and recovery coaches.
Extras
Lanna Rehab aftercare offers ongoing therapy with a staff member over Skype. Lanna also works with treatment partners around the world to provide referrals and make sure recovery will continue at home.
Weekly excursions include zip-lining, scuba diving, hiking, biking, exploring local temples, caves or waterfalls.
