The Basics
The Summit Group is a private practice associated with Pensacola, Florida’s Lakeview Center, which offers speciality mental health and substance abuse services. The Summit Group provides a multitude of resources, including diagnosis and treatment of a variety of behavioral health issues, and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opiate addiction though Suboxone. Treatment is offered on an outpatient basis and facilitated by experienced addiction specialists.
Treatment and Staff
The Summit Group focuses on client centered treatment within a private setting. For the most part, newer clients are self referred and upon admission go through an assessment process that entails creating an individualized treatment plan. In some cases clients are initially diagnosed with a co-occurring disorder alongside addiction, and are subsequently treated appropriately from there using counseling and medication management.
There are individual and group therapy options at this facility. Sessions examine behaviors that are related to PTSD, anxiety and depression, grief/loss and ADHD. Clients are taught how to work through any life challenges that they face by using valuable coping skills and managing their stress. There are elements of psychoeducation for both the client and their families, along with relapse prevention and life skills training. The Summit Group also incorporates the 12 steps into treatment, though it is not the main focus of programming.
Different therapeutic methods include CBT, DBT, Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) and EMDR. The Summit Group and Lakeview Center also utilize a trauma-informed care model throughout every step of treatment. This approach is viewed as a method of treating the whole person, working to uncover underlying symptoms and experiences that may have led to feeling the need to abuse drugs and alcohol.
The Summit Group’s treatment team consists of medical doctors and psychiatrists who specialize in addiction disorders with a focus on opiate addiction, traumatic brain injuries, behavioral issues and neurocognitive disorders.

In Summary
The Summit Group uses a lot of the same approaches as Lakeview Center and operates with the same set of values, with the main difference being that treatment is provided by specialists who have focused their whole careers in addiction medicine. The Summit Group offers an alternative and private treatment experience. It’s a great resource for the Florida Panhandle residents who are ready to seek a solid foundation in sobriety.
