The Basics
Lakeview Center for Psychotherapy is located in Chicago and is a collective of interdisciplinary clinicians with expertise is in eating disorder treatment. It describes eating disorders as “complex, multidimensional difficulties involving biological, nutritional, social, familial/relational, cognitive, and emotional factors.” Lakeview has been in operation for over a decade and treats clients in group and individual therapy using a variety of evidence-based practices and mindfulness techniques.
Treatment and Staff
After an initial assessment, clients receive a treatment plan that includes individual therapy one or more times per week. The treatment team may also request that clients enroll in its group therapy offerings, which include a six-week DBT Skills group and a six-week Interpersonal Skills group. The DBT Skills group helps clients identify and regulate their emotions. The Interpersonal groups (one for all genders and one for women) help clients interact with others and improve relationship skills.
The treatment team at Lakeview includes PsyDs, LCSWs and LCPCs. It also retains a consulting psychologist and psychiatrist for dual diagnosis support and an RN who provides nutritional counseling. In addition to DBT, clinicians employ CBT and psychodynamic processing using a person-centered approach. Clinicians have additional expertise in treating couples and LGBTQ individuals and teaching mindfulness, including mindful eating techniques. As part of their eating disorder treatment plan, clients may meet with additional clinicians for movement therapy and nutrition therapy.
Lakeview has strong relationships with other treatment facilities in the area. If eating disorder clients need a higher level of care, Lakeview is able to help coordinate treatment with area Intensive Outpatient Programs or residential programs.

Eating disorder clients are encouraged to bring loved ones in for couples and family counseling to work through the relational dynamics of the disorders.
