Lakeside Recovery Review
Lakeside Recovery offers a comprehensive, medically monitored substance abuse and recovery treatment program on the Wausau, Wisconsin campus of North Central Health Care. The 21-day program, which was launched in June 2015, is available to residents of Marathon, Langlade and Lincoln counties, supporting individuals through their recovery process in a safe environment.
Accommodations and Food
Residents live in a six-bed facility where there are two twin beds per room along with a communal kitchen, living room and dining room. Lakeside aims to make residents’ recovery experience as close to home as possible. With that in mind, cell phones are allowed and a computer is available for residents’ use as well as a TV in the communal living room.
Meals are provided three times a day and are served family-style. Residents are allowed to bring in their own snacks if they wish.
Treatment and Staff
Residents are usually referred for treatment by a physician or therapist, although self-referrals are welcome. An intake evaluation is conducted and if detox is needed, clients can go through North Central Health Care’s detox program or their own primary care or general hospital.
Residents are under 24-hour supervision, much like a hospital setting. The program’s multi-disciplinary approach includes such options as group therapy, individual therapy, interactive journaling, substance abuse education, co-occurring disorders education, music therapy and art therapy.
A typical day for residents starts with breakfast at 8 am, followed by a morning filled with group therapy and other sessions focused on various dimensions of recovery. Lunch is offered between 12 noon and 1 pm, after which part of the afternoon is spent in skills groups focusing on a specific theme of the day. There is half an hour of free time between 3:30 pm and 4 pm,when an early dinner is served, allowing plenty of time in the evening for rest, recreation or exercise. Walking outdoors is the most accessible form of physical activity, but residents of the facility have access to the local YMCA. Transportation to off-site 12-step meetings will soon be offered in the evening.
The staff at Lakeside includes licensed substance abuse counselors, social workers, psychiatrists and physicians.
Extras
Lakeside offers treatment for co-occurring disorders. A comprehensive aftercare program is available to graduates of the program that includes day treatment, outpatient services and community-based recovery groups.

Lakeside residents will appreciate the brand new accommodations with the safety of a hospital but the feeling of a home. This combination is what sets Lakeside apart along with their wide range of therapeutic techniques.
