Terrell TexasThe Basics

Lakes Regional MHMR Center found its beginnings in 1996 as a state-operated facility meeting the mental health needs and helping those with mental disabilities in Northeast Texas. Over the years, the original facility expanded to provide services in Camp, Delta, Franklin, Hopkins, Kaufman, Lamar, Morris, Rockwall and Titus Counties in Texas. Headquartered in Terrell, the facilities are currently operating as non-profit organization run by a board of trustees, with a range of outpatient services including substance abuse treatment, intervention services and DUI and drug offender education programs

Treatment and Staff

Lakes Regional offers substance abuse services in the Fannin, Grayson, Hunt and Kaufman county facilities. Programs are designed for both adults adolescents as well as those with dual diagnosis and additional mental health concerns. After an initial assessment, clients are either placed in the supportive outpatient track or the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). If the client is court-ordered into treatment, they are placed in either the DUI/DWI program, Drug Offender program or Minor in Possession program. All court mandated programs focus on psycho-education classes in place of group therapy.

The supportive outpatient program is a low-intensity track that incorporates individual and group therapy once per week. Clients meet with their primary counselor to work through improving their coping skills and relapse prevention techniques. The IOP is a 30 day track that consists of group and individual therapy in three-hour sessions, three to four times per week.

Groups are facilitated by LCDCs, LPCs and Master’s-level mental health professionals. Therapists and counselors utilize a range of evidence-based practices that include CBT and DBT techniques. In addition to groups, clients are also encouraged to attend 12-step meetings to supplement their recovery.

All clients must remain abstinent while enrolled in treatment programs. Clients requiring medication are referred to outside sources for psychiatric evaluation and medication management services.

Extras

The court mandated programs include DUI/DWI, MIP and DO and incorporate educational classes and required AA/NA meetings. Clients meet with a case manager once per week to ensure they remain on track through completion of the program. The facility works directly with the courts and tests clients at random for both drugs and alcohol.

Additionally, a family program is available to help educate families and bring about awareness towards mental health issues, substance abuse and other health concerns.

As a mental health services organization, Lakes Regional provides a wide range of programs beyond the scope of substance abuse treatment. Vocational assistance, psycho-social skills training, service coordination and general counseling are all available by request. Housing services are also available for qualifying clients who display severe mental disabilities.

In Summary

Lakes Regional MHMR Center is a widespread network of mental and social services providers throughout the state of Texas. Clients can access substance abuse and mental health care and more. Supportive outpatient and IOP tracks are available for substance abuse as well as educational courses for individuals with court obligations. This community-oriented organization has a wide reach and affordable rates for Texans seeking flexible support.
