lucerne californiaThe Basics

Lake County Behavioral Health is the state-sponsored behavioral health resource wing serving Lake County, California. Outpatient programs are available for those in need of substance abuse treatment with dual diagnosis support available as well. There’s also a corresponding program for adolescents between the ages of 13 and 18. LCBH’s two main facilities are located in Lucerne and Clearlake.

Treatment and Staff

LCBH serves self-referred clients, though the majority of clients are court-mandated to attend treatment programs. All clients begin with an assessment which includes a urinalysis screen. After this, the staff work with clients to develop treatment plans, incorporating court requirements whenever necessary. Those in need of medical detox are referred to an accommodating facility—typically the Ford Street Project in nearby Ukiah.

Clients should expect a lower-intensity program that consists of group therapy sessions twice a week for an hour and a half and individual therapy once every two weeks, all led by LADCs. Depending on the assessment, clients can sometimes schedule more group or individual sessions throughout the week. Groups are kept small with only four to 10 clients at a time and random drug screens are frequent. LCBH generally follows a CBT-method of treatment and while there is no emphasis on 12-step recovery, clients can receive information about local meetings upon request. There is no official family program offered at the facility.

LCBH does offer a dual diagnosis program, which takes the form of one group session a week that addresses co-occurring disorders. There is a psychiatrist on staff available for teleconferencing which can be scheduled as needed. The outpatient program typically lasts for six months to a year, though self-referred clients are free to tailor their programs to suit their needs.

Extras

Aftercare is provided in the form of a stepped down program of care, usually tapering down to one group session a month focused on relapse prevention.

While LCBH does provide dual diagnosis support, those who require more help for mental health services can take advantage of a separate specialized mental health program. DUI classes are also available for court-ordered clients.

In Summary

While its outpatient services for substance abuse may lack the intensity of some competing programs, Lake County Behavioral Health still offers a solid outpatient program with support for co-occurring disorders. The facility also gives clients access to a separate mental health wing to meet co-occurring disorder needs. In all, Lake County Behavioral Health is a great resource for those on a budget seeking flexible scheduling.
