Lake Bridge Behavioral Health System Review
Located just outside Atlanta in Macon, Georgia, Lake Bridge Behavioral Health System is a psychiatric hospital that offers numerous behavioral health services and programs to its clients and community members. Although substance abuse is treated at Lake Bridge, it is primarily geared toward young individuals with co-occurring disorders and other general mental health issues.
Food and Accommodations
The accommodations for Lake Bridge’s residential treatment program are in a hospital-like setting. Clients share rooms based on age and gender. Each room holds two beds, cabinet and drawer space and a closet. There are communal bathrooms on each floor for male clients and for female clients. Three cafeteria-style meals a day are provided in the dining area. There are healthy options and the cooking staff can cater to dietary restrictions.
Treatment and Staff
The residential program at Lake Bridge is not exclusively for substance abuse clients, but for all psychiatric clients under 21. As previously mentioned, programming and housing are tailored by age, gender and specific issue. There is also an accredited school on site for those clients who are still in school. Each client works closely with a therapist to focus on specific issues and to develop an individualized treatment plan.
Clients meet with their counselor for individual sessions once a week. When residents are not in school or in their individual sessions they are in other treatment sessions. Other elements of the program include group therapy as well as learning educational, vocational and life skills, and relapse prevention techniques. Medication management is also available if necessary. Recreational activities are encouraged during non-therapy hours. The length of the program can last anywhere from three months to a year. The staff at Lake Bridge consists of Master’s-level therapists, LCSWs and psychiatrists.
Extras
Lake Bridge also offers inpatient acute services for children and adolescents with psychiatric illnesses and a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) that’s a slight step-down in intensity for those in need of an residential-quality program while still going home at night.
In Summary
While the residential program at Lake Bridge Behavioral Health System is not exclusively for substance abuse clients, it does offer the perk of individualized treatment planning for each person. This could be a very beneficial program for a young person who has been perhaps abusing substances as a form of self-medicating for a dual diagnosis issue or other mental health concern.
