The Basics
Located in Lansing, Illinois, the Lakar Enterprise substance abuse treatment facility provides DUI and outpatient treatment. Only seven miles south of the Chicago city limits, Lansing is one of the smaller suburbs of Cook County. With a model for lifestyle adjustment and behavioral modification, Lakar is dedicated to the treatment of adults and adolescents struggling with substance abuse using education and traditional therapy to “modify their thinking, behavior and attitudes.”
Treatment and Staff
Lakar offers two levels of treatment, the first being general outpatient treatment and the second an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Enrollment in these programs depends entirely on a client’s results during an initial bio-psycho-social assessment which allows the staff to get an accurate view of the client’s current substance use and mental health status. All assessments are conducted by an intake coordinator who is also certified to treat addiction. An individualized treatment plan is formulated with a CASAC.
The outpatient program combines two daily group therapy sessions and individual therapy with an LPC typically twice a week for a total of 30-hours. Additional one-on-one sessions are scheduled at the discretion of the therapist. Clients can participate in anger management groups, domestic violence groups and parenting classes.
The IOP program is designed for both adolescent and adult clients who require more in-depth treatment. Created for individuals who cannot enroll in a residential treatment program due to life obligations, the IOP offers a flexible schedule and sessions can be scheduled both during the day and evenings. Attendees of the IOP track come in for treatment three to four times per week and participate in psychoeducation groups and a family program aimed at preventing recidivism and instilling relapse prevention skills.
The adolescent outpatient program specifically treats individuals between the ages of 13 and 18 and focuses on the ramifications of their substance use. In group therapy, counselors employ CBT techniques in a motivational, peer-supportive setting. Groups are also divided by gender to identify specific issues young girls and boys may face. Adolescent clients attend psycho-education groups and a large family group that brings multiple family units together for support.
All clients are encouraged to attend 12-step meetings for additional support and recovery reinforcement.
Extras
Lakar offers aftercare and family treatment to address additional concerns in the family unit during and after treatment. Aftercare typically includes a weekly peer group and a family support group. Clients may attend as many aftercare groups as needed in order to feel confident in their recovery after treatment.
Lakar’s DUI program offers four different tracks based on a court-ordered assessment and the number of DUIs the client has. Each track utilizes educational classes, intervention and/or therapeutic treatment. A “minimal risk” client participates in 10 hours of education and case management. A “moderate risk” client receives 10 hours of education and 12 hours of early intervention services which include group therapy. A “significant risk” client will participate in 10 hours of education and 20 hours of actual treatment which includes individual and group therapy. Finally, “high risk” clients receive 75 hours of treatment which includes individual and group therapy. All DUI treatment fulfills the court-ordered requirements of the Illinois judicial system.
In Summary
Lakar offers a comprehensive approach to the treatment of substance abuse in adults and adolescents. While detox services are not available, this facility specializes in providing the foundational steps towards a solid recovery. With basic outpatient, IOP and DUI services, clients can enroll in the ideal program for themselves and their family. Lakar tailors treatment to the client’s needs and there are no cookie-cutter plans or time frames for individuals to adhere to.
