Danvers Massachusetts Lahey Behavioral Health Residential Programs Review

Lahey Behavioral Health Services has a substance abuse and mental health treatment history spanning over 50 years. Formerly known as Northeast Behavioral Health, Lahey provides services for residents of the greater Boston, North Shore and Merrimack Valley, in Massachusetts. Offering a continuum of care that spans detox, inpatient, outpatient, prevention and education, adult and adolescent clients find targeted treatment. There are three Lahey residential treatment centers that provide care for men and women, mothers with dependent children and adolescent boys, respectively.

Accommodations and Food

Each of the treatment centers is furnished to provide all essential comforts, in a warm, safe environment. Clients at the Clinical Stabilization Services (CSS) are separated by gender, and share bedrooms with one other client. Each room has an adjoining bathroom, closet space and storage areas. At the HART House for mothers and their children, rooms are private and accommodate the client and all her children. Expectant mothers without children may share rooms with other pregnant women. All food is prepared on-site, and served communally. Care is taken to ensure food is nutritious and dietary requirements are accommodated.

Treatment and Staff

The CSS is a post-detox facility that provides treatment for clients transitioning from detox to longer programs or sober living homes. Clients not needing medical detox are also welcome, and this program is ideal for those that relapsed after trying outpatient treatment. Most clients stay 10 to 14 days, during which time they work toward individual treatment goals. Group therapy occurs daily, with individual counseling and case management meetings also available several times during their stay. Psychoeducation groups and 12-step meetings round out daily activities at CSS. Additionally, referrals are made to other health and psychiatric services. Clients with co-occurring disorders find support through medication management administered by nursing staff. A three to one staff to client ratio is always maintained, allowing for personalized, attentive care.

At HART, women are able to care for their young children while progressing toward treatment goals. Offering long-term care, women stay over 30 days and up to one year. Also suitable for pregnant women, clients participate in treatment modalities that are targeted at chemically dependent mothers. Using methadone and other medication management as needed, clients receive supervised medical care. In addition to providing essential services for pregnant or new mothers, children are also treated as needed. Those with co-occurring disorders receive mental health counseling in addition to individual and family therapy. Group therapy occurs daily, with focus on relapse prevention and life skills. Parenting education classes, with access to community resources are offered. Children are supervised while their mother receives treatment. A staff of doctors, nurses, social workers and therapists is available around the clock, maintaining a high level of care.

The adolescent program is located on the North Shore of Boston and treats boys aged between 13 and 18 who are residents of Massachusetts. The 90-day program provides highly structured treatment for substance abuse. Individual treatment goals are created, with the aim of safely transitioning the client back to his community. The daily schedule allows for both education and treatment needs to be met, with tutoring and support helping achieve academic requirements. Individual and family therapy aims to identify underlying issues and foster healthy communication and relationships. Boys attend daily 12-step meetings and group therapy, as well as recreation activities that boost fellowship and peer support. Additional psychiatric support is available to those with co-occurring disorders.

Extras

Clients in all programs have access to aftercare planning with their case managers. This consists of identifying desired long-term outcomes, and arranging for additional treatment or transitional housing if needed.

In Summary

Lahey Behavioral Health residential programs offer a variety of essential programs. The high number of licensed and medically trained staff means that physically vulnerable clients are safe and attended to. The cost of treatment is offset by grants and scholarships, meaning those without insurance are still able to receive treatment. With a large network of healthcare services, Lahey is an excellent choice for residents of Massachusetts.
