Darlington WisconsinThe Basics

Lafayette County Human Services organization provides a range of mental health and social services for the community of Darlington, Wisconsin. All services are affordable and accessible, including a drug and alcohol substance abuse treatment program, an Intoxicated Driver Program (IDP), financial assistance programs, family and youth services as well as developmental disability programs. All tracks are outpatient and individualized to each client’s needs.

Treatment and Staff

The drug and alcohol program at LCHS provides trauma-informed care that is tailored for each client’s needs. The program works directly with individuals, their families and spouses to provide prevention, intervention and direct treatment options. Before a client is admitted, they must be assessed by an intake coordinator. The goal of each assessment is to ensure that clients do not need more intensive treatment or detox. Referrals and coordination for inpatient treatment and detox are given if recommended by the treatment staff.

The outpatient program is a low-level intensity track. Clients meet with a case manager to decide the details of their recovery plans and goals, but group therapy is the primary method of treatment and is facilitated by one of the six staff therapists. Typically, individuals attend therapeutic activities once or twice per week. Clients are also required to attend 12-step meetings through the facility and outside of the facility. On-site AA/NA meetings are facilitated several times per week.

Counselors utilize a range of methods including CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Specialized gender-specific groups are scheduled to encourage discussion of difficult topics during processing. Staff credentials include MFTs, CASACs, LISWs, LPCs and a Psychiatrist.

Individual therapy sessions and well as psycho-educational counseling is part of the alcohol and drug program.

Extras

The IDP track is designed for clients who have been charged with a DUI or OWI and are working towards retaining driving privileges. During the assessment, clients are screened to determine if the offense was a one-time mistake or if there are existing substance abuse issues. Clients have 72 hours after their conviction to schedule an assessment. After the assessment is complete, a treatment plan is developed with specific requirements which may take up to a year to complete which typically includes individual and group therapy.

In addition to substance abuse treatment, an Aging and Disability Resource Center is available with a range of health and community based resources for senior clients. Services for children and families are also available with assistance for those struggling with autism, co-occurring disorders and those in need of behavioral intervention. Financial assistance is also available for clients with financial hardship.

In Summary

Lafayette County Human Services provides alcohol and drug counseling as well as services for DUI offenders. The outpatient substance abuse program is individualized allowing clients to design their own unique path to recovery. Specialized groups for men and women encourage processing in a private and intimate setting. Overall, LCHS offers flexible and affordable programming focused on recovery.
