La Jolla RecoveryLa Jolla Recovery Review

For over 10 years, La Jolla Recovery has been providing residential treatment, outpatient care and sober living to men and women in San Diego, California. Clients reside in upscale residences and have full days of evidence-based therapy, experiential therapy and 12-step meetings. La Jolla Recovery is one of the few residential programs that allow clients to use Suboxone while overcoming opioid addiction. It’s also unique in its focus on job readiness skills as a component of residential treatment.

Accommodations and Food

Men and women live in separate residential homes and are taken to La Jolla’s treatment center each day for therapy and classes. All clients share a bedroom with at least one other person. The well-appointed homes have common areas with TVs and games for recreation.

Residents are charged with preparing their own meals. La Jolla purchases groceries each week and delivers them to each home.

Treatment and Staff

Clients in need of detox are referred to nearby facilities to complete detox for three to 10 days. Once admitted into residential treatment, most clients stay at La Jolla for three to four months. The first four to eight weeks, they have day treatment at the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) level, with group and individual therapy and classes from 8 am to 4 pm each day. Clients then step down into Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) treatment for an additional four to eight weeks, attending group therapy five days a week for three hours while attending school and/or working.

Therapy groups are led by Master’s-level therapists and addiction counselors such as CADACs. Therapy uses CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI), and EMDR may be available for clients in need of trauma-informed care. Most treatment groups and classes are gender-specific to facilitate openness and communication. Clients in need of dual diagnosis support meet with La Jolla’s consulting psychiatrists for medication management for their mental health diagnosis.

Clients start each day with a half-hour meditation and devotional session. After treatment, they are transported to a nearby gym for a workout and then go home for dinner. Each evening, clients are transported to 12-step meetings in the community.

Extras

All clients also participate in weekly art, music and yoga therapy. As clients stabilize in their recovery, La Jolla offers job readiness training and vocational counseling.

While in residential treatment, clients can have family members visit on Sundays and enjoy staff-led beach excursions and shopping trips on the weekends.

For aftercare, La Jolla operates a number of luxury sober living residences that offer vocational support and encourage clients’ work on the 12 steps.

In Summary

La Jolla Recovery’s residential program offers responsive longer-term treatment plans in a comfortable, serene beachside setting. Clients are supported through numerous therapeutic approaches as well as encouraged to explore the 12-step framework and offered guidance on achieving educational and vocational goals.
