The Basics
KP Counseling is a substance and alcohol abuse treatment center located in Rockford, Illinois offering basic outpatient treatment and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). KP’s mission is to assist clients in becoming the authors of their own destiny, one day at a time, free of addiction.
While the IOP lasts six weeks, basic outpatient care is on-going and can last as long as each client requires, allowing for lasting structure and care that supports clients in beating addiction at the source.
Treatment and Staff
The first step in receiving counseling at KP Counseling is to complete a “self evaluation” using an online tool called the UNCOPE. The UNCOPE asks a series of questions that allows the individual to assess their own drug and alcohol issues and determine if they require further assistance. Those wishing to explore the causes and symptoms of their substance abuse further are encouraged to visit the KP facilities for more intensive evaluation by staff. Potential clients who are in need of detox or inpatient care are referred to trusted community resources. Clients who are ready to begin treatment are given individualized plans of recovery.
Once enrolled, clients participate in a combination of individual and group therapy. IOP begins with three-hour group sessions from 5:30 to 8:30 pm three times a week. Following completion of the IOP, clients may step down to basic outpatient treatment which includes a 90-minute group meeting from 5:30 to 7 pm three times a week. Although there is not a psychiatrist on site, dual diagnosis concerns are addressed in both group and one-on-one sessions. Psychiatrists are also referred out if needed.
Treatment incorporates evidence based methods including CBT and goal and Solution-Focused therapy as well as Play therapy. Gender-focused treatment is available as well. Staff is composed of 13 CADCs and LADCs and a nutritionist.

KP Counseling pays special attention to the nutritional needs of clients, endorsing the philosophy that nutrition plays a major role in supplying the body with needed vitamins and minerals as well as electrolytes leading to an easing of withdrawal symptoms. Nutritional therapy helps to ease clients back to optimal physical health, contributing to better mental and emotional health.
