The Basics
Kolmac Clinics are a network of CARF-accredited outpatient drug and alcohol treatment facilities with detox services in and around the Baltimore area. Founded in 1973, the organization has grown with all six locations providing valuable resources and professional care for the community utilizing evidence-based methods of treatment. Clients with substance use disorders are supported long-term as well, as Kolmac Clinics also provide a structured aftercare program. In addition to the city of Baltimore, treatment is available in Columbia, Gaithersburg, Silver Spring and Towson, Maryland as well as Washington DC.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment at any of the Kolmac locations begins with detox services for those requiring this service. Medically monitored treatment is available for up to 10 days with Suboxone and Naltrexone prescribed for those suffering with withdrawal symptoms from opiates. Medication management is provided by medical doctors.
If detox is not required or has already been completed, clients may then enroll in the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Clients typically attend treatment sessions at their nearest clinic five times a week, Monday through Friday, for three-hour sessions. These group therapy sessions incorporate CBT-based methods and rehab education. Rehab education discusses topics such as the nature of chemical dependency, relapse prevention and aftercare planning.
Weekly family group sessions are also integrated into treatment for those who wish to involve their family and loved ones. The 12 steps are not a part of curriculum, but attendance of meetings is strongly encouraged once treatment is complete.
The program is usually eight weeks in length, with 20 to 30 therapy sessions in total. Continuing care consists of one group session weekly for as long as necessary. Specialized groups are offered as well for those seeking support for specific issues.
The staff at Kolmac Clinic consists of MDs, PhDs, LCPCs, LPCs, CACs, LCSWs and CSCs.
Extras
In addition to a comprehensive IOP, Kolmac also offers a variety of other services including dual diagnosis support for those with co-occurring disorders. Referrals are available to outside therapists or treatment if needed.
