The Basics
With locations in Tampa, Port Richey, New Port Richey and Clearwater, Florida, Koala House is an expansive organization that provides sober living housing to men and women in recovery from chemical dependency. The duration of its programs are generally longer-term, however, clients are not required to commit to a specific length of time. Both court-ordered and self-referred residents are welcome.
Accommodations and Amenities
Koala House consists of six different residential homes. These include an 18-bed house, several three five-person homes and a two 12-person house. While the layout of each location varies, all residents share rooms with one to two other clients and each home has at least one live-in manager (the 18-bed location has two). As of print, the majority of the residences are for men but Koala House has plans to open more facilities for women in the near future. Each is equipped with Wifi and cable TV.
Rules and Regulations
All residents must submit to regular and random drug tests and attend an off-site recovery group meetings at least once a day, however, these are not limited to 12-step —residents are free to attend secular recovery meetings as well. Clients must stay active outside of the house, attending outpatient treatment or going work, in addition to participating in the regular house program, which includes two weekly groups that cover relapse prevention, job training and other rotating topics. Clients can live at Koala House for up to two years.
