Kingwood Oaks Review

Kingwood Oaks is a women’s substance abuse facility located about 30 miles northeast of Houston, in Porter, Texas. Kingwood Oaks specializes in helping women struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. Kingwood Oaks offers gender-specific, trauma-informed residential treatment programs that incorporate evidence-based therapeutic methods, the 12 steps and holistic healing.

Accommodations and Food

Kingwood Oaks is a 5,800 square foot modern home that is elegantly decorated and spacious. The program has space for 11 women at a time, which allows for personal attention and a deep bond between the clients. There are five bedrooms; one is typically private and the other four are shared. The shared rooms are very large and all beds are full or queen sized. There are four full bathrooms, with tile floors and marble countertops. Each client gets new linens, a dresser and plenty of closet space.

The shared living room and well-stocked kitchen are downstairs, furnished with leather couches, a big screen TV with cable, state-of-the-art appliances and a dining table that seats 12. The kitchen comes with the bonus of a personal chef who prepares all the meals and snacks for the clients, working closely with each individual and a nutritionist to ensure the most healthy and delicious choices.

Treatment and Staff

Clients at Kingwood Oaks receive an initial evaluation that determines whether they need detox and if the program would be a good fit. Women who need detox are currently referred to a local detox facility, but Kingwood Oaks is in the process of adding detox services. In most cases the complete detox process can be done in less than a week.

The residential program can last anywhere from 35 to 90 days. Personal devices like cell phones and computers are allowed after an initial “blackout” period of 14 days. This time allows for each client to get acclimated to the program schedule and new surroundings. Group and individual sessions incorporate both traditional styles of treatment, like CBT, DBT, Acceptance-Commitment Therapy (ACT) and EMDR. Daily treatment is supplemented by various kinds of exercise and optional 12-step meetings. Step work or journaling are a required part of the daily schedule. Frequent psychoeducation groups and classes cover relapse prevention, coping skills and the science behind addiction.

On-site staff are available for support and guidance 24/7. The treatment team at Kingwood Oaks consists of Master’s-level case workers, therapists, psychiatrists, psychologists, nutritionists, fitness trainers and trauma specialists.

Extras

Holistic options, like yoga, massage, hypnotherapy, music and art therapy, are available. A gym membership is included with access to a personal trainer.

A monthly three-day family program allows family members to attend meetings with clients to learn about addiction.

In Summary

Kingwood Oaks offers luxury care for women in an intimate environment. Residents are provided with plenty of structure, but not lacking in comfort. With the beautiful location and comprehensive care this is an excellent option for women seeking a safe space to begin their recovery.
