The Basics
With two locations in South Dakota, Keystone Treatment Center has provided a comprehensive continuum of care since 1973. With CARF Gold Seal accreditation, the nationally recognized treatment center offers detox, residential and outpatient programs for adolescents and adults. These services are based in 12-step principles and evidence-based practices, treating substance abuse, compulsive gambling, co-occurring mental health disorders and a number or other conditions. Outpatient programs are based in Sioux Falls and are separated by age and gender.
Treatment and Staff
Outpatient treatment is available at Keystone in the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) or Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP). Either can be used as a step-down from residential treatment for clients needing additional support before resuming independent living, or for clients who do not need a higher level of care. If medically monitored detox is needed, the client will first complete this before commencing outpatient treatment.
The PHP is appropriate for clients that require structured treatment without the need for 24-hour supervision. This level of care is appropriate for clients that have co-occurring disorders, with medication management offered as needed. PHP clients must commute to the clinic five days a week; individual therapy occurs twice a week with group sessions held three times a day. These utilize CBT, DBT and 12-step work.
IOP treatment occurs three times a week, for three-hour sessions, with treatment length determined in individualized treatment plans. Sessions are gradually decreased, until clients attend just one session a week as part of aftercare. Both daytime and evening options are available, with adolescent programs held primarily after school hours.
Group therapy and participation in 12-step programs is the main bulk of treatment, with individual therapy scheduled weekly or as needed. LDACs and CSWs conduct all group and individual sessions. Clients receive ongoing assessments to see how they’re progressing toward treatment goals, with their clinical team suggesting changes to treatment plans if needed.
Extras
Adult clients are offered experiential therapy once a week, while adolescents can participate in these and recreational activities—such as a ROPES course—daily. Additionally, adolescent clients receive four hours of schooling daily. An accredited teacher works in the client’s homes to ensure they receive credits while in treatment.
The Family Program at Keystone has several options available. For clients in outpatient treatment, the Sunday session is offered at no extra cost. Up to 60 loved ones of clients attend the group therapy and education lectures every week. Additionally, daylong programs are offered every week.
