Keystone Treatment Center Adult Residential Review
Keystone Treatment Center has provided South Dakota with a comprehensive, individualized continuum of substance abuse treatment since 1973. With CARF Gold Seal accreditation, the nationally recognized treatment center offers residential and outpatient programs for adolescents and adults. These services are based in 12-step and evidence-based practices, treating substance abuse, compulsive gambling, co-occurring mental health disorders and a number or other conditions. Clients can choose from many specialized tracks that integrate targeted services into standard therapeutic options. Some of these are aimed at professionals, Christians, Native Americans and those managing chronic pain. The Young Adult track is for clients aged between 18 and 26. All treatment is gender-specific.
Accommodations and Food
The single story building combines clinical and residential needs, with bedrooms, therapy rooms and offices. Clients sleep in gender-separated dual-occupancy rooms furnished with twin beds, side tables and desks. A lobby area, kitchenette and recreation room furnished with pool table and foosball leave ample room for relaxation.
Cooks prepare standard, buffet-style fare and serve meals in the large cafeteria. Furnishings are basic without luxurious amenities, but all necessary comforts are provided. Picnic area, benches and gazebo provide a pleasant outdoor setting for meetings and socializing.
Treatment and Staff
Clients first undergo a comprehensive evaluation to determine the best program for their needs. The clinical team works with the client to determine treatment goals and therapeutic modalities for their 30-day stay. Those with co-occurring mental health disorders receive medication management and supervision by nurses. Clients needing detox for any substance are medically supervised on-site around the clock before transitioning into residential treatment.
A typical day consists of morning lectures, on-site 12-step meetings, group and individual therapy. Daily discussions center around the Big Book, other spiritual readings and the disease of addiction. Groups focus on gender or age-related issues, relaxation, spirituality, interactive sharing, life skills, healthy communication and a number of other topics.
A number of of LADCs, psychiatrists, psychologists, doctors, therapists, medical technicians, practical nurses, cultural advisors, social workers and recreation therapists round out the comprehensive treatment programs.
Extras
The Family Program at Keystone has several options available. Up to 60 loved ones of clients attend group therapy and education lectures offered on Monday and Tuesday. Additionally, daylong programs are offered every week.
Individual and group exercise, as well as fun activities and opportunities for creative expression are organized each week. Every weekend, clients can partake in experiential therapy, including a Native American sweat lodge ceremony, attend religious services, sit around campfires, watch movies or enjoy other recovery-related activities. Visitors can come to Keystone on Sunday between 2 and 4:30 pm.
