Key Transitions is a treatment program for adolescents to adults between the ages of 13 to 30 that offers mentoring and transitional living services. Programming focuses on helping each client find their greater purpose in life while addressing underlying issues, like chemical dependency and mental health. Treatment includes one-on-one support, 12-step involvement if needed, along with engagement in health and wellness, goal setting and accountability. Key Transitions mentoring program has two locations, one in Los Angeles and the other in Colorado.
Treatment and Staff
The mentoring program has as three tier system, and clients are placed in whatever tier suits their specific needs most effectively. The first treatment track is the Clinical Family Program, which entails 10 hours of mentoring, four hours of parent coaching and one family therapy session per month, all with a licensed clinician. Track two, the Therapeutic Family Program, differs in that it offers 16 hours of mentoring a month with a therapeutic mentor. The final track is the Maintenance Track, which doesn’t offer parent coaching.
Treatment is designed for those who are dealing with dual diagnoses, learning disabilities, depression, anxiety and are struggling to find their place in the world. These programs aid in helping each client discover independence, develop methods to solve problems rather than turn to drugs and alcohol, offer emotional support. They teach practical life skills, like money management, vocational skills and future focus.
The mentors are individuals who are either current Master’s-level therapists or are in the process of obtaining their Master’s degree or Doctorate in the mental health field. They cooperate closely with each client’s clinician to work toward treatment goals. Other staff consists of case managers and LCSWs and includes the president of the foundation who has over 20 years experience working with struggling teens and young adults.
Therapy is experiential and the mentors seek out specific activities that are both recreational and therapeutic, including shopping, community events and outings. As clients progress through their programs, the mentors make adjustments that offer support until the individual is ready to go out on their own.
Key Transitions also has a housing program that can work in conjunction with the therapeutic services.
