The Basics

Key Transitions of Los Angeles provides teen boys, ages 14 to 17, a structured transitional housing program that focuses on mental health and behavioral disorders. Clients prepare to live independently through mentoring and life skills training with experiential based therapy and, if needed, 12-step support. Key Transitions emphasizes the importance of self reliance and passion development within their highly unique and supportive programming.

Accommodations and Amenities

The luxury housing facility is located in the private and exclusive neighborhood of Bel Air. The spacious and beautiful home offers six beds in double occupancy bedrooms, furnished with queen sized beds. Each of the rooms are simply decorated with dressers and nightstands. There is a state of the art kitchen with marble breakfast bar that connects to the informal dining nook. Other common areas include the formal dining room, living rooms and media room with shared computers. Rounding out this beautiful space is the large patio with outdoor dining space and gorgeous views.

All meals are prepared on-site. Some are made by staff, and some are made by the residents under instruction of professional chefs.

Rules and Regulations

The main components of the Key Transitions Housing program consists of academic support and independent living skills training in conjunction with mental health coordination, counseling and substance abuse treatment through the Key Transitions Mentoring program. Each individual client is assigned to a mentor who shares their common interests and help them get a long term goal plan together, in addition to the treatment each client is receiving from their personal clinicians and families.

Maintaining education while living at Key House is required, and clients have the option of taking online classes or attending a school close to the facility that can suit their particular needs. On any given day clients have a number of life skills experiences, like cooking classes, organization, money management, learn study habits, cleaning and more. Additionally they guys must attend vocational training and support groups, like resume writing and interview skills, problem solving, communication skills and stress management during their stay.

In some cases clients are connected to AA meetings and sponsors if needed, and family members partake in weekly family coaching sessions as added method of support. These sessions can take place in both an individual and group setting. The house is supervised 24/7 and staff of Key Transitions Housing includes LCSWs, MFTs and several Master’s-level therapists who are working towards their doctorates.

In Summary

Key Transitions aims to help guide the young men in this program to make healthy choices down the line to set them up for success in the future. They do that by connecting their clients to mentors who share interests and passions with them, who can show them that there is a path to a bright future. For young men seeking a structured housing and mentorship program in LA, Key Transitions is a good option.
