Kennedy University HospitalThe Basics

Kennedy University Hospital is part of Kennedy Health, an integrated health care organization that provides a wide range of services in three locations throughout southern New Jersey. The behavioral health department offers treatment for both substance abuse and mental health issues, serving clients of all ages. While inpatient programs for mental health problems are available, the substance abuse options are outpatient only. Through psycho-educational groups, evidence-based modalities and individualized treatment, clients are able to embrace a new way of living.

Treatment and Staff

Outpatient substance abuse programs are offered at three Kennedy University Hospital facilities, Cherry Hill, Stratford and Turnersville. Each facility has separate tracks for adults and adolescents and each track is limited to no more than 20 clients. Through an initial assessment, the staff evaluates each client’s case to determine what level of care is most appropriate. Individualized treatment plans are crafted specifically to meet the needs of each client. Detox is not available, but referrals can be made.

The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) offers the highest level of care for chemical dependency. PHP clients meet for group therapy three hours in the morning and three hours at night, up to five days a week, with individual counseling once a week. Group topics include trauma, relapse prevention, 12-step work, meditation and communication. From PHP, clients can step down into the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). This option offers support up to five days a week, for three-and-a half-hour sessions. The structure is nearly identical to partial hospitalization. Both daytime and evening hours are available and transportation can be arranged, when available.

All levels of treatment use evidence-based therapies such as CBT and DBT. Dual diagnosis support is always available. Education about the disease of addiction is provided, while relapse prevention teaches clients to identify the triggers that lead to drug or alcohol use. Family therapy is also an option for those who want to involve their family members in the recovery process.

The staff includes licensed and certified psychiatrists, doctors, nurses, therapists and counselors.

Extras

In addition to treatment for substance abuse, Kennedy University Hospital’s behavioral health services offer both residential and outpatient programs dedicated strictly to mental health. These programs address issues such as depression, PTSD, anxiety, schitzophrenia and bipolar disorder at facilities in Cherry Hill, Stratford and Turnersville, New Jersey.

In Summary

Kennedy University Hospital offers the highest level of care without inpatient treatment. Through the intensive structure and support, clients can maintain real-world job and family responsibilities while receiving treatment. Through a range of therapeutic modalities and traditional 12-step work, this institution can help both adults and adolescents find sobriety and strong mental health.
