KB Recovery Review
KB Recovery is located in the LA suburb of North Hills, California and offers detox and residential treatment for substance abuse for men and women over 18. KB Recovery is named after the founder, Kevin Babayan, who after finding his own sobriety felt compelled to establish a safe and supportive environment for his clients to find freedom from drug and alcohol addiction.
Accommodations and Amenities
Treatment takes place is a large, two-story modern brick home in a quiet residential neighborhood. There are four bedrooms, one of them being a private master bedroom with bathroom, and the others are double occupancy. The other two bathrooms are shared amongst the clients. The residence is co-ed, but floors separate male and female clients. There are two living rooms with leather couches and mounted flat screen TVs, along with a foosball, pool and ping pong tables and stone fireplace. The recently remodeled kitchen offers brand new stainless steel appliances and looks into the adjacent dining room. The backyard has a picnic area and brick fire pit, which over looks the swimming pool and hot tub.
Offices, meetings rooms and a yoga room where clients can practice several times a week with a certified instructor are included in the residence. For those who aren’t keen on yoga, counselors take clients on frequent walks around local Balboa Park or to one of Southern California’s beautiful beaches. Family visitation is every Saturday where clients get to fire up the gas grill and have a barbecue while enjoying the serene and private, flower and shrub-encased back yard.
All food is provided and prepared on site by a chef who offers nutritious meals, fresh pressed juices and fruits. There is no limit to what clients can eat in a day, as food is available 24 hours.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment at KB lasts between 30 and 60 days, and offers many different therapeutic elements. The in-house detox begins in a majority of clients, and is supervised 24 hours a day by one of the on site residential technicians and daily check ups with an RN. The facility offers a non-confrontational approach and goes at the individual’s program pace. Initially clients experience up to three individual therapy sessions per week and several process therapy groups per day.
Treatment approaches include becoming familiar and working the first three of the 12 steps with daily writing assignments, CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and EMDR. Holistic options include art and music therapy and experiential and recreational therapeutic activates. Relapse prevention and dual diagnosis groups are also offered, and daily house meetings as a method of checking in with each other and staff provide a way to keep the environment supportive.
The staff of 12 includes Master’s-level psychologists with experience working with clients in the field of addiction, along with CADCs, MFTs, Yoga and Massage therapists and residential staff.
Extras
Aftercare planning takes place throughout the clients stay and the facility is able to refer clients to local outpatient or sober living program. For an additional fee clients have access to massage therapy or Equine therapy.
In Summary
Treatment at a facility that offers privacy, good food, a nice house and programs at your own pace is not a bad way to get sober. With the different options regarding treatment and the experience of the staff, KB Recovery strives to make the experience of rehab as pleasant as possible.
