The Basics
The Hancock Park House is the newest addition to Karuna Recovery’s sober living facilities. This giant, two-story art deco home is located in the Hancock Park area of Los Angeles, close to public transportation and minutes from the historic Farmers’ Market. While the house allows personal freedom and independence, clients can expect drug tests three times per week along with mandatory house meetings and 12-step participation.
Accommodations and Amenities
The Hancock Park house is co-ed and accommodates 16 people. The house has six bedrooms, four bathrooms, a large kitchen with a formal dining room, a living room with a fireplace and a laundry room.
As with the Crescent Heights residence, furnishings are chic and comfortable. There are three bathrooms and five double occupancy bedrooms upstairs, all of which have double beds, nightstands and shared dressers. The master suite on the first floor has a private bath and houses four people. There is a backyard which as of print is under renovation—once completed it will host a covered patio and a barbecue for grilling.
Amenities include unlimited coffee, cleaning supplies and paper products along with wireless Internet, cable (on a plasma TV in the living room), local and long distance calling, central heating and air conditioning. The kitchen has been remodeled and comes equipped with a refrigerator, microwave and dishwasher. Residents are responsible for purchasing and preparing their own food.
Rules and Regulations
Potential clients must be sober at least 24 hours prior to admission. Anyone caught drinking or using drugs will be discharged immediately. There is also no tolerance for violence or theft, both of which are grounds for immediate dismissal.
House managers oversee drug testing three times a week and a mandatory house meeting Sunday through Thursday at 10 pm. Clients must also attend a total of 90 AA or NA meetings during their 90 day stay. The only exception is for working clients, who must attend a minimum of four meetings a week with house slips signed for proof. All residents are assigned weekly chores and must be dressed and out of their rooms by 10 am.

Overall, Karuna Recovery’s Hancock Park House offers support and fellowship in a safe and supportive environment. Centrally located and in a sought after neighborhood, this facility could be a good fit for those who need additional support after leaving a primary treatment program, all for a reasonable price.
